Lets Talk Sights

Ok I am sure this has been covered from time to time, but personally I am not in love with the stock sights on my XD 9mm I was thinking of these

http://www.pistolgear.com/proddetail...d=11TXA&cat=15

anybody have experience with these?

How much should i expect to pay to have them installed? I hear it is a PITA for a gunsmith.

any other suggestions are more then welcome, I don't however like the Henie (???) sights tries somebodys XD40 at the range with those and they didn't work that well for me.

I have not had any experience with those. However, judging from the pic they seem a bit large and you might have an issue with finding a holster that will accept them. I am personaly looking at these http://www.pistolgear.com/proddetail...d=11TRB&cat=15

From what I have heard they have a profile similar to the stock sights, and are great regardless of light conditions.

Search XS Big Dot here, there have been threads about them. That's what I plan to put on mine, whenever I get around to doing it.

While they're $120 on pistolgear, you can ship your slide (only) back to SA custom shop, and they'll remove the factory sights (a royal PIA according to people who've done it), install the XS Big Dots, and ship it back to you. SA charges $95 total parts and labor, plus shipping. Figure $10 each way, and you're still ahead.

I got the TFO for my 40 and really like them. The front FO piece fell out and Truglow repaired it free even though it was off warranty so would highly recommend them.

Changing these things is tough. It is just as easy and probably better in the long run to just get the sight changing tool as if you do have a problem with any sight you again have to remove it. the front one is damn near impossible to get off even with the tool but it will come off. Don't even try and beat it off and the new one on, you will only hurt your hand and probably break the FO portion. For a 100 bucks get the tool. I got mine from someone on this sight.

XD sights...

Speaking from personal experience, removing and replacing the factory sights is a monster PIA. I've also seen several good smiths destroy slides, ultimately having to "Pin" the new sight in...
It's worth every penny to send it to SA for the replacement.
Spoke to them today. The price is right, and if they screw up the slide, they'll fix it or replace it... it's that simple.

When I first got my XD I decided that I would give the stock sites a fare shake, however I couldn't help but make one modification. I got some acrylic paint (neon yellow and neon orange) and painted in the sights--orange up front and yellow in the rear. I used a really sharp brush to fill in the white-dot pits so that the paint was raised just a little above the horizon of the sight's surface.

Let me tell you, that neon paint is amazing, especially the yellow. You an see the sights so much better then the white color that comes with. I can stand in my bedroom close with the door open with no light other than that which comes from my living room and I can still see the rear yellow sights. They practically glow in the dark. At the range I love having the front site an orange color, but for all intensive purposes the neon yellow color stands out so much better. Just to share.

I had them on another gun and was not overly impressed, I sold the gun long ago so I don't remember just exactly what I didn't like. If I were looking for a sight other than the typical "V" sight I would look at "Ghost Sights".

I run the big dots on my 45 service and wouldnt trade them for the world. In my opinion they are the best sights for a fighting gun. If your just into target practice then maybe other sights would be better but if you carry this gun for protection then by all means get them.

They fit in all holsters. Are easier and quicker to pick up then any other sight system I have used. They are made you can do a one handed slide rack unlike many other no snag sights. And for shooting on the move these are the only way to go.

I am about to send my new XD 9 SC into SA custom shop to have them put on. I think their price is about $90 installed. Which is great because everyone says XD sights are a PITA to take off. Plus they will be covered under your warranty.

GET THE BIG DOTS AND DONT LOOK BACK
