Lightbulb 3rd party Substitute for XD compact MAG X-TENSION?

I love my XD .45 ACP Compact; but lets face it, paying an extra 9.95 for a small piece of plastic that fits around the base of a 13RD magazine for the XD compacts is annoying. A stock .45 13RD mag runs $25 but we want the grip extension or "X-TENSION." So we pay $34.95, if anyone even has them in stock, for something which should sell for $26.

Why do we not have any 3rd party substitutes for this part? Are there any legal reasons I could not make and sell them? I ask because I have a friend who works at the local plastic injection molding shop, and he could whip up a replacement for this part and pump them out for 50 cents a piece after the cost of making the mold.

However, after running the idea by a friend I have the notion that this is a bad idea only because of "liability" If someone blames the part for an injury or anything else, it will be far worse than any small monetary benefits I could reap from being
entrepreneurial.

Any thoughts?

I purchased a Non-Springfield extender from a private gun shop..dont remember the brand offhand but it did have a set-screw to keep it in place and was more of a "Glastic" (fiberglass/plastic) material. It was still 10 bux but i really like it. (for 45 cal)

Buy the xd Aacessory kit for 40-50 shipped and you get w mags and one w/extension. Or just get the 3 full size mags. Sell one off and then buy the xd gear extensions.. Hope that made sense.

Eh, I mean, I guess. Honestly, I'd rather just have the Springfield part and not have to worry about it. But that's just me!
