IWB vs OWB
Hey everybody...
had a question. I'm just another guy... not LEO/military, etc. For CCW, i've always carried IWB or ankle. That's my XD service, SC, and bersa .380. I recently picked up a Sig P220ST. i've used a cheap IWB uncle mike's to carry and it's "ok". Then again, i've been spoiled by a tucker texas heritage for the XD SC for the last 2 yrs. about me, i'm 5'11", 180 lbs. Figure an extra 10 lbs around the midsection i'd like to redistribute into muscle w/ a good workout regimen. I love the new Sig but she's a little bit of a cow compared to the XDs. It has been recommended to me to look into OWB carry. How many people carry OWB? I'm just very paranoid that i'm going to somehow flash/show the gun and have all sorts of problems/chaos ensue. Then again, that's what i thought when i first started carrying IWB. Another thing, OWB seems only like a winter carry option. Is this true? Just wanting to weigh my options before i pony down for a new holster. Thanks for all the help and input. |

Only gripe is that it's less convenient to take the whole holster out and stash it somewhere.

with the right holster OWB is possible also. Im a bigger guy and i use the galco fletch OWB holster. i wear it at about the 3:30 to 4:00 oclock position and it hides nicely. it certainly is easier on the mind in winter time (not worrying about flashing someone).
tha galco fletch is easily snapped on and off the belt without having to undo the belt or anything. |

I OWB with a straight-cut button-down shirt that's cut long. Socially acceptable here in the Sunshine state. I typically use a DeSantis Mini Slide -- it's got a nice cant and holds the weapon up a little higher than say... a Mini Scabbard from the same company. The cant assists with a faster draw as well as for keeping the butt in closer and on an angle, making it easier to conceal. I can post pics of a similar carry rig if you'd like.
