Additional Mag Capacity Base Plate Extensions

What are your thoughts on these things?

Good/Dumb?

Any function problems after installing them?

One of the reviews on one of the extensions at pistolgear said that he could only get 2 rounds of 45acp in it while the claim was that you could get 3. I'd rather pay another 5 bucks and get a whole new magazine.

If I were to get some, they would be going on a 9mm. Two of the three models claim +5 capability. Add that to a 16 round mag and you have a 21 +1 capacity. That seems pretty crazy, considering it does not seem to add any akward length to the mag.

My biggest concern is the use of the factory spring.

I think they look cool, I just can't bring myself to pay for one when a magazine is only a few bucks more. If you think this gives you some sort of defensive advantage then go for it, but as for convenience at the range I'll take an additional full magazine. I think these extensions would be worth it if they cost like $4.

The Arredondo Extended Base Pad for XD work very good. The Pearce one are actually for Browning Hi-powers and can allow you to over insert a magazine and posible damage the ejector or lips on a magazine.

I have several of the Arrendondo and use them for 3-gun Limited competition. Definitely not need for carry makes the grip to long and hard to conceal but for shooting sports then come in handy. Arrendondo also make a longer spring to go with the extension to maintain feeding reliability.

I got three of the Arredondo and am quite pleased with them so far, even with the factory spring. I got +3 in my .40 and for duty carry no problems whatsoever with the length. I also like the little extra weight it gives me. It balances out the gun for me on my tactical.

Next up on my list is an open mag carrier so I can carry all three. For me, they were worth the price as I get 9 more rounds WITHOUT having to carry another mag. On an already crowded duty belt, this was a nice thing.

I agree. I'm considering them more for defensive purposes than range convenience.
