Holster for wading???

I need a holster that I can keep on me when im duck hunting and wading around flooded timber forests. It needs to be quickly accessible, so inside the waders is out of the question. The options Im looking at now are shoulder carry and chest carry. Also want something that wont break the bank. By the way its an XD tactical, and its for gator protection.

Gator protection? Brings back fond memories. I used to live in Wauchula, FL before I was forced to move to a place that had employment.

Personally, I'd just pick up a Galco shoulder rig ... maybe ... up here in the north I go ATV riding and I sometimes have to stand in water up to my crotch and I get sprayed with water and mud quite a bit. So, I use a Kydex holster (worn on the belt) and give my gun a very thorough cleaning after each outing. It's a bigger committment for the gun than for the holster.

If your duck hunting have you thought about using Hevi-shot buckshot or Hevi slugs. You're going to have the shotgun with you. I know you're trying to avoid having lead on you. Around here we have a hog problem in some of the bottoms we duck hunt in. I talked to a game warden here in MS and they are OK with lead slugs. Not sure what's up in your state but you might want to check out Environmetal or Remington to see what they offer in a non-tox shot.

Ive given consideration to using dead coyote, the waterfowlers buckshot, but its not so much for my protection as it is for my dogs. I trust my shot better with my pistol than with a scatter gun. I do realize that if a gator gets ahold of my dog im pretty much screwed, but I like my chances of killing the gator with my pistol than possibly killing both with a spread of buck-shot. Plus, in order to use my shotgun, ill have to load dead coyote in before I shoot, which takes time. Pistol is quick access without having to put in different ammo. I am leaning towards a cheap uncle mikes shoulder rig.
