Holsters for a slimmer framed guy

Hey guys/gals. Im looking for a holster. It will be my first holster purchase (besides the xd gear one that I got with my xd40, which ive never used). Anyways Im about 5'10" 155lbs and usually wear button down shirts both tucked and untucked. Sometimes Ill sport a baggy t-shirt. Ive been checking out the IWB and am seriously considering either the Crossbreed Supertuck ( http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...52_1968_450222 ) or the Minotaur MTAC (http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/prod...products_id=95 ). The MTAC allows me the option of just changing the kydex part to fit another pistol and the wait time less. The KD Defender is nice but the wait would kill me.

I assume that these will be just fine.

Any other suggestions?

Also can someone tell me the pros and cons of kydex vs an all leather holster?

EDIT: any suggestions on which clip should be used. I dont wear belts so I will have to invest in one.

Thanks.

Clobber

smaller guns conceal better than larger ones. Single stacks conceal more easily than double stacks. You could probably tuck a PM9 just about anywhere and not print even in 'jeans n t-shirt'.

Holsters - kydex is thinner but leather more luxurious. K&D is a great holster maker - I have one of his holsters and love it. http://www.bearclawholsters.com is another 'top shelf' maker worth considering - I have several of his - shaves off every extra bit of kydex to minimize printing.

Go with 'c clip', not j-hook ... just my humble opinion. C-Clip will allow you to take your gun off and on one-handed which is necessary since part of carrying is having to take it off before you enter a post office, work, or other places.

The belt is very, very important. A quick and inexpensive solution is to buy a 'Wilderness Instructor Belt' - doesn't cost much and they ship immediately. They are not very 'dressy' so I'd talk to Kevin at K&D Holsters or maybe http://www.mernickleholsters.com/bm_belts.html and get nice leather belt sent. VERY IMPORTANT: When you measure your belt, add two inches to your presnt size if you carry IWB, add 1 inch if you will carry OWB, and add another inch or two for how you will fatten up in the next couple of years. I have 4 very nice leather gun belts and I'm outgrowing them all since I didn't have the foresight to plan ahead

Best to ya!

Big +1 on these comments...
I got two defenders from K&D just because of all the great comments i read here, had them set up with 1-1/2" C-clips for shirt tuckability and keeping the clip less obvious. Now I'm on the hunt for a leather belt for dress - thinking I will go with the Brown Shark from Rafter S and will add to those as I go.

Another option (if you go for a Comp-Tac holster) is the v-clip with a belt from "The belt man" (www.thebeltman.net). You can get the velcro sown right into the belt. It is what I use (horsehide belt with velcro, CTAC holster) and I love it, rock sold hold on my holster and its easy and fast to use. Plus the belt looks appropriate for more then slumming around in the woods. I can wear it with any piece of clothing and no one would think twice about it.

Thanks for the info guys. I think (I hate commitment) Im going to order the MTAC today. The K&D is freakin niiice but the wait is sooo long (I really like the suede backing tho).

I was looking for belts and found this site:

http://www.dutyman.net/pages/product...athermain.html

Anyone have experience with their products?

Thanks again.

Is your XD40 a service or subcompact. If it's a service, then I feel for you.

I'm 5'10", 145lb and just got rid of my XD45 service for an XD9sc because there was no way to conceal that thing. My best friend has a hefty belly on him and could have it IWB with no print at all.

Now, I'm already having problem hiding my subcompact. Last night I stood in front of the mirror and put it in various positions all around my waist and just couldn't get it to stop printing. Even with a heavier shirt, I don't think I could get away with having it anywhere on my waist.

I'm seriously considering an ankle holster for wear with baggy pants, and a shoulder holster that keeps it under my armpit when I'm wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Yeah its a service. Hopefully I can pull it off but I have been wanting a subcompact (or maybe a grip chop) but Ill see how it looks first. Im getting the "slide" version of the MTAC so it will fit all the XDs.

Well. Its official. I ordered the MTAC today. Ill see how it conceals. I usually wear an untucked button down shirt or a baggy t-shirt. ***crosses fingers***
