Replacing Sights - DIY or Gunsmith?

I have purchased TruGlo TFO night sights for my new XD-45C and not sure if replacing these is something I can tackle without messing up the slide or other parts of my new gun or just find a gunsmith and pay for it. Any guidance would be appreciated. If you think it is a DIY project, please give me a brief outline of tools and procedure and any cautions I need to be aware of. I have a pretty good assortment of tools and a vise, but no "press" that I have heard some mention is needed to do this right. Your comments are appreciated. New to the site, great information!

GO HOKIES!!

I've done my own TFO's but I did buy the MGW tool to remove the stock sights. If you are unsure, best leave it to a smith.

its not worth it to do it your self. my gunsmith said these were the hardest sights he has done ever and he said if he had known that he would have charged me $75 instead he only got 25 and if they mess up they have to fix it if you mess up its on you. ive nevr dont them but i would guess that all said and done it would take about 2 hours my gunsmith took 1 hr and 15 min

I have heard of many guys getting their sights installed for $20-$25. For me it isn't worth possibly messing things up to save that much.

I vote the DIY route. I replaced the sights on my XD9 myself and it only took about 20 minutes total.

It's too easy to screw up the tritium vials. Use a smith. It's only $20.

SA will remove the factory sights at no cost if you ship the slide back. By the time you pay shipping r/t it may be better to pay a local gun smith. SA's prices to install sights is less than the sights cost at a discount place like Cabelas. The XS are $95 installed at SA + shipping.

It would be money well spent going to a smith.
