Surefire G2 Lamps
Well after a few recommendations from the last flashlight thread I decided to pickup a Surefire G2 last weekend. I must say that I am blow away to see how much light this thing puts out. If 65 lumens looks like this it makes me wonder what the optional P61 lamp looks like that puts out 120 lumens. Does anyone have experience with the high output lamps for the G2??

I'm very pleased with my G2. Even better is I got it for free at work. Haha. I looked into the high output lamps but they eat up the battery much faster. Besides, 65 lumens serves my purposes just fine.

I have that higher output lamp - yes, its quite a bit brighter, but ended up just putting the stock 65 back on due to the 15 minute run time of the 115 lumin. Ha, if you want it, I'll sell it to you 1/2 off retail since I'm not using it.

They look great and if you ever hit somebody in the eyes with the beam, I swear you hear the sound of eggs frying, which turns out to be their retinas.
I would have to agree that I wouldnt buy one. The run time is about 15-20 minutes. The only flashlights that I use at work that have that high of an output are rechargeable so the battery cost is not a factor.

120 lumens sound impressive compared to 65 lumens, but in reality it really doesn't add that much more light. For the significant reduction in battery run time, the P61 is not worth it in my opinion. But don't let me talk you out of getting it; not my intention. |

I have a Z2 with the 120 lumin bulb. I carry it daily. Dont use it enough to really drain the batteries but when I do it really heats up the flash light. I agree with other that the 60 lumin is more than enough for general purpose useage.

I was just looking for something to play with on occasion, take camping ect. My buddy has a Surefire E2D that is rated at 60 lumen and I have a G2 rated at 65 lumen. There is actually a considerable difference with just the extra 5 lumen. This got me wondering how impressive a 120 lumen lamp would look next to a 60 lumen lamp.
I got lucky, the day I bought the G2 I was given a box of 20 CR123's so batteries are not a huge concern. -Derek |

I like the G3 much better, with P91 200 lumens lamp. It really does well indoors and outdoors. The G2 is still an excellent light, though.
