Night Sight Suggestions

I've searched around a bit on the forums and have come up undecided... I'm running a set of TRU Glo TFO's on my XD-9 service and really like them... But I've read that it's not suggested for carry because they are prone to breaking, the inserts fall out, etc.

I picked up an XD9 SC a few weeks back and it will be my carry choice. With that said, I'd like to get a set of sights for that as well "just incase"...

I've looked over pages of search results for Trijicon, Heine, XS, TRU Glo, etc... I really like the idea of the XS sights (the sales person at Cabela's also suggested them - as they are on his XD45)... But I don't want to turn this handgun into a self-defense ONLY gun... I still target shoot fairly often and still want to be accurate at 10, 15, 25 yards away if that's what I'm shooting at. With the XS, they sayd accuracy is down to 7 yards (as that is what they are designed for)...

So - a set of night sights that will hold up to carrying, do their job, and still allow me to target shoot when I want. XS Small dot? Trijicon?

Thanks for your help.

I posted a video of someone shooting the xs bigdots out to 100 yards... bending over ... between his legs. Yes he was an excellent shot. I think the bigdots do take a bit of getting used to but can be accurate a bit further out. The sc is reallly not a taarget gun anyway although a fairly accurate piece. The big dots are also good for point shooting( just use the front site.) As you can tell I like the xs sites.

I saw the video that you posted actually!

I was really sold on the XS sights until I read the reviews on some of the threads posted here... What about the smaller set of the XS sights? Will those be closer to what I'm looking for?

Maybe I'm more sold on the XS sights then I know.

I've carried my xd9sc for about a year now, with TFOs. No problem. Don't believe about 99% of what you read on the internet.

I like the Dawson or Heinie sights, because I really like their sight picture.

I'm a Heine kind of guy... Love my Heine's... LOL!

Seriously... My G27 has them. I just sent James my XD45c for installation of them (and a refinishing job while it's there ,) and my XD9sc will get them and a refinishing job when my XD45c gets back from James.

I'm a huge fan of the Straight 8's. Easy acquisition, and DOB accurate.

Haven't tried the XS stuff yet, but do have a set somewhere at home that I can toss on one of my older Kahrs to try... Got them off Ebay for $28 with shipping...

I have Meprolights(orange rear, green front)night sights on my XD45 Compact, very happy with them in both day and night sights. Trijicon's also are nice for day/night although they cost a few dollars more then Meprolights. You can't go wrong with either sights.

Any of the sight mentioned are good options. I would say that the TFOs and the Heine Straight 8s are two good options.

Does anyone have a decent shot of their sights installed? Particularly the Heine's and XS's?

I've had my TFO's on my XD9 Service for probably 3 months now without problems... But it spends it's time mostly in the padded holder locked in my safe. The SC will be carried.

Here's a pic next to a Kahr PM9 with Trijicons that I sent to someone on another board for a size comparison. They're mounted on a G27...

Hope this helps!
