Holsters to fit Service AND Subcompact?
I've had my XD9 Service for a few months now. I recently received an MTAC holster that's great. I'm a pretty small framed guy so the grip length of the Service is a problem at times. I'm thinking of picking up a SC to become my main carry gun but I'd like the option of carrying either.
So, will a SC fit in an MTAC made for a Service model? Obviously the kydex will be a little long but will the SC be held secure? What about a K&D Dakota Defender? I've got one on order for my Service and if the SC would fit too that would give me the best of both worlds. Last edited by bckpack; 09-24-2007 at 08:16 PM. |

IWB.
I haven't been able to compare a subcompact side by side with a service so I am unsure of the differences in dimensions that might prevent a subcompact from fitting in a service holster. |

I have an XD 45 Service and an XD 9 SC and use the same holsters for both. The XD gear holsters that come with the guns are identical. Granted, there is some extra room in a couple of my holsters when I carry the SC in them, but the fit is the same.

I use a crappy, Uncle Mike's nylon IWB holster for either. There's some extra wiggle room for my SC but nothing horrible comes of it.

I have a Comp-tac CTAC holster for my XD-9 service... I purchased an XD9SC this past weekend and it fits in the holster for the service well. As you said, the holster is a little long, but it's nothing that should cause a problem.
I will use the CTAC for my XD until my new Dakota Defender comes in...

Comp-tac's MTAC "slide" version will handle all XD models. IMHO, the one to beat currently if you factor in price, adaptability (comfortable and durable even when worn against bare skin in the heat of summer), quality of workmanship, comfort and aesthetics. A great IWB holster for 80 bucks. And best of all, they ship in a nano second. Shown below is a "dedicated" XD45c MTAC (LH), not the slide version. I have since put standard clips on. There is a reason the MTAC's sales have gone through the roof. It's a helluva holster for the price and virtually no wait.

I can't say anything for the holsters you mentioned. For me:
IWB: Crossbreed SuperTuck w/ adjustable cant OWB: Blackhawk CQC SERPA Both holsters fit both my XD-9 service and subbie perfectly.

I use a FIST #8 OWB for all of my XD's- service and subcompact. It is an open bottom holster, so it will fit either with no problems. It is a very well made holster for a good price. I like mine alot.
