I need something versatile for my wife to carry her new XD-40 Service, and the above-mentioned Blackhawk appears to fit the bill nicely. I'm hoping some folks around here have used one and can tell me if it's just kind of "gimmicky" or if it's as useful and versatile as it looks. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I haven't used it, and I wouldn't buy it. It looks rigid, big and bulky, not something I would want for concealed carry. But then a fully loaded XD Service Model is too big and heavy for many to carry concealed. Did she select this particular gun to carry?

![]() The "Infinite Cant" moniker is because of this: ![]() It can be rotated to be used strong-side, cross-draw or SOB, or anywhere in between for that matter. As to whether or not she picked the gun out for herself, it's kind of yes and no. She picked the caliber after shooting several different compact and full-sized guns at our local range. The range is located inside a gun store and they have about 30 different models of loaners. They did not, however, have any XD models. Her favorite of the ones she got to shoot was the S&W SW99 in .40 caliber. When we left the range, we went into the store and asked to see a couple or three different models that were similar just to compare how they felt in her hand. She liked the Taurus 24/7 and the Mellinium Pro and both the XD SC and Service models. Got home, did some research, and found there were some pretty common problems with FTF with both Taurus models. Researched the XD's and found only a few criticisms of them, and even those were very mild. Next step, find one for sale. Went to GunBroker and found a great deal on the Service model, $399.99 with the Gear package. Including shipping and FFL, it was $444.99. The best price on the same model here in town was $449.99 plus 8.5% tax, so I couldn't turn it down. If I could've, I would've bought her the SC, but the GunBroker dealer didn't have that good of a deal on one, so there ya go. My ol' lady is pretty stout though, not heavy or "big boned," just stout as in tough. If she finds that the Service model is too big and heavy for her, I'll just take it and get her the SC. Hey, for me, it's a win/win situation either way. Can't have too many XD's floatin' around the house! Blues |

That's a better picture of the holster I saw. It looks smaller than what I was visualizing.
You won't know about how comfortable the XD Service Model is for her to carry untill she tries it. She may be "stout" as you put it (I didn't), but I'm 6' and 195# and eventhough I own one, I don't want to lug it around all day on my belt. Just a thought...good luck with what you decide.
