KD Dakota Defender
I am curious why the KD Dakota Defender can not be worn both IWB and OWB
like the Cochise Defender. From the pictures I've seen the only difference is that the Cochise has additional leather at the throat for easier one hand holstering, and you still can get the backing that is on the Dakota as an option. The clips look the same etc. I do have the Dakota on order currently because it is thinner etc. Has anyone else thought about this?? |

I think maybe the Dakota doesn't work out well for OWB because of the amount of extra leather below the tip of the barrel/slide. Mechanically, though, it should work the same as the Cochise.

When I eventually receive mine this was one thing that I was going to try out. I don't see why it wouldn't work out but it doesn't show it on the kdholsters website.
I don't know how long you have been in line but I should get mine in the next month or two and I'll post my findings for you. |

Does anyone know if any of the KD holsters can be worn with a tucked in shirt?

Please do! In the post I made above I MEANT OWB (it's been fixed) so I'd like to know if the extra leather is much of a problem...for OWB.

I am waiting for my cochise defender also. Should be here in another month. I ordered it over the dakota because of the flexability factor.

it would be nice if that is a possibility. I placed my order in the later part of June. I'm hoping to have it towards the end of this month (even though thats on the shorter end of his waiting time) as my bday is on the 27th. If K-man is reading this..that sure would be a nice birthday present

Let me try and answer your question. The primary reason that the Dakota Defender does not allow for IWB/OWB carry is because of the hardware we use for the screws. It is a t-nut, and that only allows for the screw to be put in from one side.
You can wear the Dakota in an OWB fashion - between the waistband, but behind the belt. The issue you face there is whether or not there's enough room between the belt loops to accomodate that, and whether or not it would put the gun/holster in the position you need it/want it. We've been looking at ways to allow the Dakota to be worn either IWB or OWB, but have not found a satisfactory design in that respect. Part of the issue is because the "wings" of the holster are a single layer of leather (versus two that you have on the Cochise Defender). The attachment point of the clips (at the bottom of the holster), combined with the single layer, would most likely allow the gun to eventually lean out away from the body somewhat when worn OWB. Our goal when making the Dakota was to keep it thin, and yet functional. We're still looking at ways to allow the Dakota to be used IWB/OWB, and hopefully we'll develop something soon.
