I received the Laserlyte yesterday, have not shot with it. 2 initial comments:
- There are 3 tapped holes on the one side plate for a steel pin which fits in one of the square grooves perpendicular to the barrel in the light mount on the XD. If the allen screws are lock tight'd, there's no way it can slide forward and fall off. - With the laser on the gun, there is no way to fit it in the XDgear or Blackhawk serpa holsters. I was hoping that it would be possible to cut and modify the holster only where the laser is below the frame, but it can not fit and slide forward into either holster because it gets blocked by the plastic. Here's a side view.
I adjusted the laser against the far wall in my garage against a visual point of aim, the way those little allen screws turned so easily I have to believe they'll come out of adjustment unless 'locked' in with locktite, or similar.

I took your advice and added some Loctite to mine also.

Funny, I can't see any Locktite
Post how it shoots, and if the aimpoint does not wander. |

I probably won't get a chance until next week to shoot.

I've still not shot the XD with the laser- I've taken it pig hunting several times, and the hogs did not cooperate at dusk to give it a workout.
What I did find, was unfortunately it will not fit in either my Blackhawk serpa holster, nor in the XDGear even if I went into the holster with a saw and file. I'm planning on putting night sights on the XD as an upgrade, and have been reading, looking, reading, looking and can't decide on the Trijicon's or the XS Express Big Dot with tritium front and rear sights- both if which should fit OK in my Blackhawk. I must say the documentation Laserlyte provides is pretty poor. In an email they told me to back-out the 2 adjusting screws and align the dot with my visual POA while screwing-in the 2 allens with Loctite on them, it's important that they move to their final position moving in (and not backing out), so that the laser does not move when the gun is shot. Just throwing out an idea here, anybody interested in trading the Laserlyte (the guns never been fired with it on) for a pair of night sights they're not using? It will not fit a SC .40 or 9mm, the rail-mount is not long enough. Last edited by Bill in San Jose; 08-23-2007 at 01:13 PM. |

Embarressed, but have not shot it yet. The unit is below the barrel, and does not stick out to the sides, just the bottom. See the picture above. Laserlyte customer service was very good, installation instructions could use some work, like adjusting screws inward to their final position, and the need to put Loctite on them.

How bright is the light?
> Very bright. How visible is it during daylight? > Indoors during the day it's very bright when shone across my house. Outdoors during the day, I can see it at 20 yards. bright sunlight? > I wouldn't recommend it indoors? > Very bright dim light? > Took at out at dusk, when it got dark I could bounce the dot off objects 100 yards away. How far out can you see it in those conditions. > 100+ yards and still see the dot in the dark How does the product look feel? Solid well made? Shody cheap? > Very well made, machined from a small piece of Aluminum. The 2 allen screws that put pressure on the side plate to grip the under barrel mounting area hold very tightly. There is a steel, metal bar that screws-in parallel and in between the 2 allens that goes in the groove in the mounting area, so it can not move forward or back. Can you compare it to any other laser light? > Only the $25 el-cheapo BSA light for .22 rifles, and this is much better. What I don't know is how well it retains the alignment setting/position after the gun is fired. |

My recommendation would be to order one from Cabelas, they're #1 for hunters for catalog and internet orders (www.cabelas.com) 800 237 4444 I know the # without looking it up. It's $149 at Cabelas, and they will take anything back if you're not happy with it, just costs you shipping which is not much on such a small item. Order it, shoot it, and decide. Post what you find out.
On the Cabelas (and cheaper than dirt) web sites there are customer reviews, and they're not great- issues are it fell off, and the laser dot wandered around. The company said they fixed rthe problems. I think part of the problem (I do NOT work for Laserlyte) is the installation directions are poor- they don't tell you to backou the allens, put on Locktite, and then adjust the laser while screwing-in the screws so the internal mechanism holds the laser in place for example. Try Cabelas. Last edited by Bill in San Jose; 09-05-2007 at 07:42 AM. |
