The X2 isn't half as good as the TLR-1. Streichers has the TLR-1 for $99 and it has twice the output and is built in an aluminum housing with an unconditional lifetime warranty.

These seem pretty cheap.

I might get one after I get my sights. The cost of some of these lights is just stupid... $100 for a flash light? Honestly...

*Edit* Evidently it's $64 for the switch... And $240 for that light. Hahahah yea not exactly going to spend enough to buy a gun on a flashlight. After trying the glock tactical light I think it's about the best you're going to get for the money, and it also looks nice on XD tacticals.

It ok the TLR-1 will do everything the Surefire will at less than half the price. The MSR on the TLR-1 is $180 but they sell for $100-$110. It's extremely tough and durable and has a lifetime warranty. Not to mention it's 80 lumens (compared to a $250 X200's 60 lumens) with a 2.5 hour run time. Very high quality light. if $100 dollars seems expensive for a weapon light then you've never needed one to save the day before. It'll only take once to make you a believer!

here's the bigger h2x typhoon for a really good $$$---
http://www.botac.com/inh2xtyfl.html

a little bigger but removeable for hand use when a "loaded flashlight" is not necessary or just downright bad...

Another good light for long gun mounts is Wolf Eyes Raider with cree or without.

With Cree
https://www.pts-flashlights.com/prod...d=1-99-104-110

Regular incan lamp
https://www.pts-flashlights.com/prod...spx?uid=1-4-13

Either way it would be better to get the rechargeable model because you can switch out the rech batteries for CR123 batteries in case of an extended power outage.

Wow, I'm amazed that no one even seems to realize that there is a whole 2 handed grip style based on holding the light and gun.

It's interesting for sure and rather viable is the reading I've done is anything close to right.

I think taking the SF listed costs as fact is a bit of a bad idea. Call Calvin at BrightFlashlights.com and you'll be surprised at how much below MSRP the x200's can be had for. Yet I use XML's and TRL-1's .. even though I'm a huge SF fan, they are just a bit too proud of some of their things.

Why I'm pro-Rail Mount

Hey, jtk...I thought the same thing a while back. However, after I found out they can be had - with rock solid quality - for about $100 plus tax, I looked into them some more. Then I re-read many LEO posts here on XDTalk about scenarios, room clearing, etc.

I bought the Streamlight TLR-1 and would recommend it to anyone on a budget or just starting out. I'm pretty sure you could pound nails with it, since it's all metal. Don't pay more than $129 no matter where you get one.

Here's why I would recommend anyone have one. Think about it this way, if you carry a pistol with a mounted light for (a) home defense or (b) a car gun then the merits are as follows in my humble opinion:

a. you can open doors with your free hand
b. you can move and shield loved ones with your free hand
c. you can use a phone (cell or home) with your free hand
d. you can flip on/off light switches...
e. you can re-load...
f. you can drive the car, in which case you should be getting the heck out of harm's way or heading to retrieve the long gun

You get the picture...bad things happen in broad day-light, but more frequently in the dark. If you have 5 seconds to grab your weapon and get your wits about you at night, why worry about fumbling for another tool?

Oh, and I always have a 2-cell (123a battery) flashlight handy in the car and on the nightstand for backup or for the wife (fixing to get another Streamlight Scorpion - 114 lumens, I think...best $35 you can spend for output)
