Pearce Grip Problems

I bought a Pearce grip for my XD SC 40 and after installing it on the mag I loaded the mag with 8 rounds and inserted the mag. I found the mag would not lock in unless I slammed it into the pistol. in addition, it was also difficult to push the mag release.

I called Pearce and was told that there is a known problem with the extension and they will replace it when I return the one I have. In the meantime I bought another mag and grip extension from a different vendor and the same problems occured.

I called again, talked to the same person and this time there was no mention of a problem but that the grip was not as flexible as the xd floorplate. So, I was advised to boil it for 10 minutes to make it more flexible. Tried this, no go, same problem.

Anyone else experience this problem? I was surprised since I have heard nothing but good things about Pearce and this seems like a no brainer upgrade.

Pearce Grip Problems

I had the same problem. So I called Pearce, the CS rep made no mention of a problem. They sent me a new one ,same old problem. I loaded the magazine and with the slide locked back the mag will go in just smooth as can be. Just don't try to top off the magazine or you will experience the same problem. If you absolutely must have the one more round in the magazine just give it a little more of a wack when inserting it. My stiff magazine release problem disappeared when I oppted not to add one more round to the magazine after releasing the slide and putting one in the chamber, so I carry nine instead of ten in the firearm plus an extra magazine. This should help it worked for me.

I had to 'shave' the Pierce a bit to get them to fit in my pistols.

Hmm... I have two magazines with them and no issues. It must be a manufacturing tolerance thing.

from the posts it seems that some are having trouble with this as well. Funny, when i spoke to the Pearce CS they told me that they have never heard of any problems with the XD grip extension.

Since this is a CCW weapon I am not willing to compromise it's reliability or capacity. Anyone know of an alternative to Pearce?

btw..I have two NIB pearce grip extensions I am willing to sell

I have a couple. They fit fine and the mag release is hard, but it's hard with my springfield mags as well. Just not broken in yet...

I had an issue after removing the magazine floor plate and spring. I put the floor plate retainer in backwards and the grip extension ends up locked too far to the operator end of the pistol; then the magazines were tough to put in and they would not drop free. I just flipped the floor plate retainer (directly under the magazine spring) around and they worked fine, no more problems. I don't know if this helps, but I figured I would input for once.

No issues with my two...but I typically slap the mag in pretty firmly.

Take the aftermarket crap off and get a spare mag carrier for the added "capacity".
