One of the things to remember is that a one problem product gets crucified repeatedly online, despite whatever number of the same product works great. It's kind of like the internet's version of the squeaky wheel. I wouldn't buy TFOs anymore because 99.9999% of my shooting is during the day, so I might as well have FO sights I can get for $38 that work great. Night sights aren't that great for daylight, IMHO. No better than factory, and sometimes not as good. If it's dark, I'll use a flashlight, since I'm not shooting something I can't see. I'm sure some mall ninja can come up with some scenario where you have to have night sights or die, but I'll chance it.

So trijicon sights are hard to see in the daytime? That sucks. I'm gonna buy a XD tomorrow and the gun shop said they have them with and without the nightsights. With a $70 difference I thought i was getting a pretty good deal on the nightsights but i'll be doing the vast majority of my shooting during the day.
How bad are the trijicons in daylight? |

Never looked at them, so I couldn't say, but I've never seen any nightsights that were better than a factory 3 dot in daylight. If the shop won't let you take them out in the daylight and look thru them, I'd find another shop. Take something out with FO sights, and see the difference, and decide which you prefer, cuz that's the bottom line, not what any of us think.

"How bad are the trijicons in daylight?"
They look like regular white 3 dot sights in the daylight. For 70 bux difference with the sights already installed I would get them. It'll cost more to add them later when you wish you had them. That's my 2 cents....... Mike |

For me, I can shoot both eyes open with quality day 3 dot sights. With standard trijicon night sights, I cannot shoot both eyes open because I have a hard time picking them up in daylight. I have to close an eye to shoot with night sights during the day. That is why I have Truglo TFOs; that solves my problem.

In low-light, tritium sights are GREAT.
Our issued beretta's have tritium sights, which as mentioned, just appear like a typical white 3-dot sight set during daylight...but in low-light or no-light they glow pretty darn well. Personally, I'd rather not shoot with a flashlight unless it was absolutely necessary...traditional 3-dot sights, or fiber optics just don't "pop" enough to see them in low light and the flashlight is pretty much a necessity. There are instances where you are in a low-lit area where your sights aren't easily seen, but you can still see your target--ask any archery hunter, he'll tell you exactly what I'm talking about Tritium sights make the night and low-light quals MUCH easier. I've shot the low-light quals a few times with my XD for fun, and you're pretty much shooting purely instinctually. Being forced to hold a flashlight over your sights just to aim is a great way to give off your position and make yourself a target--just aim at the big white light! I wish I had spent the extra $$ to get tritium's on my XD, because I plan to upgrade and it would've save a fair amout of $$ to just get them in the beginning |

I dont have much experience with Truglos other than seeing them at the range and guns i pick up from the display case or at gun shows.
They are VERY bright during the day and i see a big use for them in competative matches, IDPA for example since matches take place during the day. I am a big fan of Tritium night sights though. Some of them do get dim with time but you can usually have them replaced from the manufacturer which is still a pain in the but. I like the profile of the trijicons much better and seem to be more functional for concealed carry vs TFO's. my $0.02

For daytime shooting, I sight by lining up the top of the front sight with the tops of the rear sight. I don't need bright sights in daylight. I'm definitely going with traditional Trijicon night sights for their proven durability.

for a carry weapon, I have trijicon hands down (compared to TFO's). I also shoot competition. The trijicon act just like a regular 3 dot sight in the daylight, but the truly do come alive in the dark.
For my competition shooting, i'm going to be getting FO because they glow great in the daylight but i've heard stories of them being fragile or breaking the FO piece and for carry, I want durability. |
