Where to try out holsters?
Anyone have any recommendations on where to go to try out different holsters? It's great to got o a website and see 500 different holsters that will work with my gun...but it'd be nice to see how they fit and what not. Of the local shops I've been to, I've only found one holster that's made for the XD45. I either need a list of holsters made for other guns that also work for the XD45 or a list of places to go to try on/out holsters.

Holsters are always a crap shoot. I ussually end up buying, trying, and if it doesn't work selling on Ebay and eating the 20% cost... But, it can get expensive.
Prime example: http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/showthr...735#post610735 Maybe you just need to follow me around and pick up my scraps at 75% cost, then resell at a profit.

Yeah, kind of a crap shoot ... though it's less of a crap shoot if you buy top shelf stuff from a custom maker.
I once bought a leather holster from custom maker and I was mad that it was way too fat and big ... but guess what? That is now my favorite camping / hunting holster - perfect for the job - it's just not good for what I originally intended it for. I bought an IWB from a very reputable maker and was mad after it arrived that it carried too high. Guess what? As I gained weight I found out that it was the best IWB for 'belly bulge' so I wear it when my pants are tight. I've only bought one holster that was an outright mistake ... and that was because I was goin' cheap. My .02 ... check out the usual holster websites and pick out something that looks like it would fit your needs. Buy it and use it. No matter what, it won't be the last holster you buy.

I'm looking for holster recommendations from the skinny shooters. I'm 160 lbs, 6'. I have found it's tough for me to carry anywhere other than either small of my back or just to the right of it (I'm right handed) to conceal it. I can get away with this with a polo, or even a looser t-shirt, or a button down, but I can't carry anywhere else without it bulging or printing.
Maybe I just need to get a smaller gun. |
