Cheap IWB holster from....
Uncle Mikes. Its the sidekick model to be exact. I'm really surprised how much I love this very cost friendly holster.
First, its made of a neoprene type of material(think wet suit). So like nylon, there's no need to worry about holster wear(my sig's sexy nitron finish likes that idea). Secondly, this neoprene material is extremely thin. Its also cut to cover the entire slide. So no worry of pinching, or sweat coming into contact with the slide causing a rust issue. The clip is made of plastic, but is quite durable. I clip it to the waistband on my pants, then strap my blackhawk belt over it, providing a firm attachment. No worry of snatching the entire holster out while drawing. The outside has a grippy feel to it further promoting this. The inside has a different texture that is smoother, further enabling a smooth draw. Due to how thin the material is, this is by far in my opinion the closet you can get to a mexican carry WITH a holster. The holster is extremely comfortable also due to the soft material. One other thing I hate on most nylon holsters is that they all seem to have thumb break retention straps. A no-no in my book for concelead carry. "Excuse me sir, before you shoot, give me a second to unsnap my holster" or "yes, I'm getting out my wallet like you asked, oh that snap/velcro sound that's nothing" No retention snap here, just a swift smooth draw. I love this holster. The best thing is its a smashing $23. And here I am about to spend $69.99 on a bladetech UCH. : ) Sometimes simple is better.

I carried with an $11 Uncle Mike's for the longest time. Works great. Less filling.

Quality holsters do not use velcro for thumbsnaps although they may be a characteristic of inexpensive, entry level holsters.

There is no effective difference in the draw times worth discussing. IF anyone think there is, then they are probably doing something wrong. I have never used any velcro closures, but I have used nylon holsters with the thumbsnap-ed straps attached to the holster with velcro. (The straps had snaps where the two pieces of strap meet and not velcro there.) The velcro actually works great for attaching the straps to the holster AND aids in getting a proper fit of the holster to the body as you can position the gun with the straps NICELY. |
