Couple questions about cleaning...

Gun is an XD-45acp Service model if that matters. Just got it a few days ago, and need some cleaning supplies. My questions is about the bore brushes. The ones with the threaded, interchangable tips. On a lot of the cheaper tips, they seem to have either stainless steel or aluminum "shafts".

The copper/bronze/nylon brushes will be attatched to these shafts. I have only seen a few tips that seem to have copper/brass shafts. Would a brass- or copper-shafted tip generally be a better idea than a stainless steel or aluminum one? To me I would think the brass/copper-shafted tip would be softer and less chance of harming the bore of my barrel. Is there any harm in using a brush-tip that has a NON-brass/copper core, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of the two materials when it comes to cleaning out guns?

Also what would be the purpose of the various tips? Like I see a copper/bronze brush, a nylon brush, and a cloth mop-type thing.

Thanks in adavance and sorry for the rookie question.

IF you properly condition the bore, cleaning will be a snap with just some fluid and a bore snake.

IF you have a conditioned bore and you scrub it with a metal bore brush you will ruin the conditioning and the bore will no longer be a snap to clean.

I have covered the conditioning process here in this forum in other places, so a simple search using this forum's excellent search facility will net you that info should you decide to take the easy route and condition your gun's bore.

IF you decide to go the conditioning route, you could get the same results I have. Typical clean up is three squirts of my "special" cleaning goop immediately followed with one trip down the bore with a bore snake. Repeat this squirt and wipe procedure once more. Do this every 50 - 200 rounds or so. My results are a spotlessly clean bore. (I do this at the range BTW.)
