CC Clothing

Anybody wear CC clothing, a vest in particular? I am looking at a vest from Concealed Carry Outfitters. Last summer I wore a hooded sweatshirt all summer and while the summer was a normal summer with cool temps and rain, and wearing a hooded shirt is common here, it still got warm wearing it so, I prefer something different like a vest this summer. I am currently wearing a light cotton long sleeve shirt with the buttons undone and it works but the light weight fabric hangs on the grip and prints so I must constantly remind myself to pull the tail down. This vest is made from heavy weight nylon to hopefully hang better and is longer than most shirts or normal vests to help conceal. Plus there is weight in the vest fabric for getting it out of the way during a draw. With the weighted pockets, to me it seems like it would be good when knife slicing my hand rearward throwing the weights in the vest to the rear for a faster draw. With a sweatshirt and cotton shirt they do not seem to throw rearward with force to get out of the way. Also wearing just a t shirt to conceal, it takes two hands to access and draw leaving my front exposed to the threat, my left hand and arm I want out in front protecting this area or too much time pulling up the t-shirt then drawing.

I have seen several individuals ccing with jackets zipped up in the winter and wondering how they could draw quickly with one hand while protecting themselves with the other.

Any inputs? Thanks either way!

Most vests that I see these days SCREAM concealed carry. You may want to try a deeper concealing holster like the Crossbreed Supertuck. I wear mine at the office with dress shirts tucked in and I don't print. A jacket is a better alternative to vest I think. Any decent length will probably do or you can check out the stuff from 5.11.

Point Taken

The FFL I got my first XD from always wore a vest over his Wilson 1911 with 2 mags in a leather pouch but of course it was not a cc looking vest, just an ordinary vest with some odd patch sewn onto it. The vest I am thinking about is plain nylon with slot pockets but has a long length with weights to keep the hardware hidden. Of course I will sew something onto it in the form of a patch. I do have an issue with my holster, I am considering the Supertuck and the Comp-TAC, probablly go with the CTAC first and then see what happens. Thanks!

Even before I carried a concealed handgun I regularly wore sweater vests, cardigans, and other types of pullovers. None of them look tactical or are made of leather. I'd rather not look like I just got done fishing, quail hunting, or working as a photographer. So, I usually look more like Mr. Rogers. The difference is that there weren't any bad guys in his neighborhood.

newb question

What's printing? I've seen it referenced a few times, but unsure of what it actually means with respect to concealed carry.

Thanks!

When your gun leaves a bulge under your cover garments and shows the outline of your gun.

printing means your gun showing through your clothing. Grip presses into the shirt or jacket you're wearing and you can make out the outline of an object. You generally print the most when you bend.

About the only ways to counter printing, is to get a smaller gun, or wear looser clothing.

I'd say it is you, many of the other people who conceal carry, and maybe some of the smarter bad guys. There is no way the average person thinks "I bet that guy has a gun in his waistband" when they see some guy wearing a sweater vest.

OMG!!!! HE'S GOING FOR HIS GUN!!!!
