I have the Hume ankle holster
Got it yesterday, and wore it about four hours today. I'd recommend it for carry under pant legs with plenty of room. With some minor modifications I could wear it all day.
There are pro's and cons.... Pros: The holster is well made. My XDSC fits very snugly and is held secure. Stayed secure and snug on my ankle. Did not feel heavy on my leg (like I thought it would) Cons: The upper leg support strap isn't long enough to fit around my leg without the velcro hooks rubbing my leg (starts to become intolerable after awhile). The ankle strap loosens after a few minutes and has to be retighten to prevent the gun from flopping when I walk. Pistol is difficult to remove from the holster. I'll put a cloth under the upper leg strap to keep the velcro from chaffing, and work on loosening the holster so it doesn't grip the the gun so tightly. It will be a good choice for carry under long pant legs durring the summer.

I was finally able to track down a subcompact 9mm yesterday!!! It's small and everything, but it seems a little big to carry around on your ankle. What do you guys think? Should I just stick with an ISW or is it not really too bad on the ankle?

If you are going to carry on ankle the Uncle Mikes is where it's at.
Also if I was wearing big boots everday it would be a different story.

Hey Bro,
Quote:
All the straps are velcro. Velcro is good, because it makes it easier to adjust to your leg. Yeah, the ankle strap comes loose, which makes the gun flop when you walk until it's retightened. I think this is normal, because I have other guns that I carry in ankle holsters, which also come loose over time. This one just seemed to do it more frequently. I think it's just a matter of me using it enough to get the right tightness. One nice thing about the ankle strap is that it is fleece padded, which is very comfortable. My calves are not huge. Just normal for an old fart, who's six foot tall. I haven't measured them (and probably won't). The top/calf strap has elastic to adjust to calf sizes, but the elastic is not long enough, and doesn't stretch enough. So, you can't get the velcro hooks off your leg. Never the less, it is acceptable, if you put a cloth under it.. Trully, the one thing I like least about the holster is the difficulty in getting the gun out of it. Once my 9mm XDSC is seated in the holster, it takes a real hard tug to get it out. I haven't worn it since the other day. I'm thinking of wearing it for most of the day today..

On a related note, has anyone tried an ankle holster for a compact model, not the subcompact? I recently did the grip chop on my service model 40, and wouldn't mind trying an ankle holster for it.

Thanks for getting back to me. It's greatly appreciated.
I asked once before on this thread, but noone has replied yet. My question is is the SC too big to carry around on your ankle comfortably? It seems a little bulky. Would IWB or SOB be a better option? In your opinions? Come on guys, a little help here huh? |

For me.... it's too big for ankle carry
Quote:
I think I'll stick with my little Beretta Tomcat for ankle carry. I'm glad I got the ankle holster for the XD, because it's good to have, but I'm still trying to find a good conceal option for my XD9SC, for summer. I saw a thread about pocket carry in cargo pants. There's a cheap Desantis pocket carry holster that might work well in a cargo pocket. I like cargo pants/shorts, and wear them a lot. So that might work for me. Good luck with the ankle carry....
