Canyon Creek Tungsten Guide for XD
I was wondering if anyone has used either Canyon Creek or Don's tungsten guide rod for the XD? I couldn't find much when I searched, but I'm particuarly interested how it compares to the DGR.
I already have a DGR for my service, but I'm hoping to get a tactical (40) in the next couple weeks. Thanks! \\ACB

I have one in my .45 Tac. It noticeably reduces muzzleflip which helps on followup shots. I think Guntest magazine who is one of the few who I trust to say if something works or doesn't gave it a very positive review. The only downside to it is that it does pretty dramatically change the balance of the pistol. Possibly not so much for you with a 4" barrel, but I do notice that mine is now quite noseheavy.
Hmmmm..... do I see a brass magwell in my future?? In all seriousness I consider it a significiant improvement and would recomend it over a non-tungsten rod.

I have made them but...for the Service models I think you can tune pretty good with springs. The weight difference is not a large enough percent to make it worth the while. Now if you are looking for the last little tweak, maybe you will like it. But in my 9mm and XD40 the difference was very little from my initial impressions.
For the Tactical, it seems to add enough forward weight to make it more viable. Since this is not a moving mass like the slide, it does not really affect the cycling which can be dependant on springs and loads. It does change the feel, but mostly in inertia for muzzle flip. That aside, the price Canyon Creek has is pretty damned good. I have scraps of material on hand for a Service rod or two, but after that I go in the hole to make a Tactical, so Canyon Creek in a pretty good value and the lead time should beat me by a long way. |

I ordered one from PistolGear.com last week and hopefully i'll be receiving it soon since the gentleman i spoke with said he had one in stock for my XD along with a 22lb spring.

I have one of the tungsten guide rods that has been a nice addition to my competition gun. The XD40 I bought I skipped the tungsten and just filled the stock hollow guide rod with lead.
