Duracoat and parkerized

I just called a local gunsmith that is a cert. duracoat person got to talking and he said they parkerize the gun before they duracoat. is this normal. He said them take it apart, coat it then reassemble it all for $100.00 does it sound like a good deal or not.

I parkerized my gun before painting it. You can parkerize or sand blast or both. The process helps the paint stick to the gun.

All the good people park before coating. Unless they just need a super smooth or shiny finish. That's the best price I've ever heard of.

I think the Dura holds better on sandblasted parts. I did some 'testing' on some parts and thought the sandblasted looked and held-up better, IMHO...

It needs to be sandblasted to clean down to the metal and then pakerized to hold the duracote and also gives maximum protection against elemental forces. I had mine done by Mac's Restoration. He is top notch and very helpful. Check out his site if for nothing else than to explain the process.http://www.shootiniron.com/

I had James from the forum do it. I think it costs me around $50.

Has it lasted? I'm interested in doing it to my XD slide, but I don't want to pay for my slide to be fully disassembled and blasted/parkerized.

Thanks,

Jim

James does it for $55. Not sure of the process, but the end result is great. Mine was done about 18 months ago and still looks like the day I got it back.
