concealed carru holster advice for a new XD-9 Service owner

I just purchased my XD-9 and I am a little concearned about how I am going to carry this one concealed. I am a really skinny guy at 5 foot 9. My prior carry pistol was a S&W CS9, which I carried IWB at 4 O'clock at a 15 degree cant in a high noon holster. I would like to acheive the same effect with the XD-9 if possible without it printing since it is a bit bigger.

I am just looking for suggestions on what to try out. If the IWB option is a no go, I will have to go OWB, but require something that sits high and tight, so suggestions on those would be appreciated also.

Any help you guys can give me to get me going in the right direction would be much appreciated! Thanks!

www.comp-tac.com : Look at their CTAC IWB holster.

www.tuckergunleather.com : Look at his "The Answer" IWB holster.

I am 5' 10" @ 175lbs. I carry .40S&W Service and/or .45ACP Compact with a SuperTuck IWB Holster and have had NO problems whatsoever.

I had a Galco similar to that HighNoon and I never foun it comfortable. Remember, the larger the firearm the more it tends to move around if not properly secured. I didn't like the Galco because it like to move around on my belt.

I've tried no less than a dozen holsters including OWB and IWB for my XDs and Glocks and they way to go is the CTAC Slide. Wonderful. I carry every day and sometimes I have to put my hand on my side to make sure my gun is still there or that I even put it on that day. Once you carry for a few weeks you might not even realize it's there.

How much slide damage does the CTAC do on the XD's slide?

My gun is not a safe queen but I will not be carrying all the time so it would be nice to not have it get scratched from periodic use.

I carry my XD9SC in a High Noon Split Decision at 4:30 and love it. Very similar to the Bare Asset, but tuckable. With the right shirt, it doesn't print much at all. Although, I was recently outed while playing pool. "What's that on your back?!" "It's my adrenalin pump."

Any holster poses the risk of scratching, and pre-melonite finish XDs develop wear marks and scratches very easily.

That said, I carried a Glock 23 in a CTAC holster for 2+ years and the gun looked as new the day I sold it as it did when I bought it. I've only begun carrying my new XD45C in a CTAC holster and am hopeful that the new melonite finish that Springfield is applying will hold up equally well.

If it doesn't, then the slide will be sent off to Tripp Research for their Cobra Coat... after which I am certain that it *will* hold up just as good as my Glock's factory finish did.

I realize this is a long winded answer to your question, but a simple Yes / No wouldn't have done it justice.
