PackerfanXD , Im supprised with the cash you just spent on that rifle that you dont belive in haveing quality support gear. If your rifle was a range use only gun then you bought alot of un-needed gadgets with that AR15, but if it was a multi use rifle it only seems smart to invest in the whole system and not just a component.

CTD vest is exactly that(Cheaper then dirt) the cloned a poorly designed vest in the first place. The cost of quality matirials to build something quality is greater then the cost of these vest so what dose that tell you?

BlackHawks Strike line is very well built dispite being made in NAM. The stiching on the few things I have from them is every bit as good if not better then the TT. Eagle Designs most of there gear and it is generally what I would call usable designs.

I use plate carriers and molle/pals for sure. If one was on a budget and dident wana go all out , I would sugjest no less then a TT MAV, Or modular eagle chest rig from SKD.

Here some pics of some differnt peices I use, No im not a mall ninja all this gear is for the day I decide to take over the world.

TT MAV and X harness

My favorite rig, Paraclete Plate carrier

Blackhawk Ninja commando assasin death camp chest rig, or whatever they call it with the back peice.

TT 3 day assualt pack and compleat 1st 2nd and 3rd line gear

Hey sharpstick,

Totally cool color job on the rifle. Where did you get it done?

The rifle is painted with HS removable Bow Flage. Bow flage over all other coats be it duracoat, molycoat or what have you , has some sort of anti reflection grit in it that not only helps the paint blend by no being reflective but also helps a bunch under NV for he same reasons. Its not as pretty as Duracoat , but hey its a tool not a safe queen right.

Badshot, thanks for your input. Points well taken. However, I still like the vest and am pleased with it's quality. It may not be the best choice, but for what I can afford and need if for, it'll do. It'll hold my pistol and shells/ammo when I hunt and alot of AR mags when I'm out camping/plinking. As far as SHTF situations, well, it'll be better than nothing I think.
I was speaking of this post, I wasent trying to be insulting sorry if it came off that way. I was just shoked that you bought such a nice expensive rifle , and got frugal on the support gear. Again sorry if i came off as rude or if im off base.

Hey, I don't feel I was frugal at all; I saw a vest I liked that would do what I wanted/needed it for, at a good price. Money really isn't that big of a factor for me. I saw your stuff and other vests...but I like this one and will not make apologies for it.

I really hope I didn't come off as condeming your choice. Hell if it fits your need, run with it baby.. My gear is my gear because I felt it was what I needed. It works for me, and I make sure that I at least spend some time with it packed out and what not to make sure it does that. That really is the bottom line of everything I've been trying to say here.

I have a Blackhawk Camo EOD vest that I use primarily for backpacking. Carrying concealed becomes a challenge when a wearing a 40 pound pack with a waist belt.

It has 3 pouches that hold 2 AR mags each on the left side and utility pockets on the right. My XD-9 Service with an M3 on it fits nicely in the middle one, my spare mag and a small cleaning kit fit in the one close to the zipper, and with a couple of pieces of camo cloth under the flaps it all conceals quite well. My last trip, one of the guys who knows I carry actually asked me where I had it. In the #3 mag pouch I usually have 75' of Paracord and a roll of camping T.P. I have a plastic box that fits perfectly in one of the large utility pouches containing all my personal hygeine items, meds and pain relievers and spare batteries. In the other large utility pouch there is usually a headlamp, sometimes a rain poncho, other times beef jerky, granola bars and snacks. I have a leatherman wave in a pocket up on the shoulder, a Streamlight Scorpion or TL-3 in the flashlight pocket, and the remaining pockets get used for digital camera, cell phone, compass, gum and candy.

I carry a 3 liter Hydrastorm hydration system in the rear pocket made for it, and have an adapter for my water filter that allows me to filter straight into it without removing the vest.

The object is to have all my frequently used items and emergency stuff where I can reach it easily without taking my pack off or asking someone else to dig it out for me. Also, in the event I have to ditch my pack to avoid drowning, or somehow get seperated from it, I still have enough gear to get by with. I always have a PSK tied to a belt loop and stuffed in one of my pants pockets, in case I lose everything else.

I have a day pack that can be attached to the vest with quick release buckles to carry a bivy sack, air mattress, water filter and food when going fast-n-light.

I have found that washing it a few times will soften up the nylon mesh a little, and have even slept in it. Sometimes it will get a little bulky while sitting or squatting, but unzipping it solves that problem.

That's what I'm talking about.. use the gear you have and learn how it will work best for you - okgr8outdrs has the right idea's and sounds like he's tested the theories.
