rangergunleather.com evolution iwb review
Well folks, it's finally here. I've had my evolution holster for about two weeks now, but my gun has been out for refinishing (that review to follow). Anywho. I ordered a evolution holster w/standard metal clips from greg over at Ranger Gun Leather.
Front ![]() Back ![]() My first impression upon pulling it out of the packaging was that it was going to be rather stiff. Apparently it just needed to be worn. T he leather is form fitted to the gun. a half way detailed outline can be clearly seen. The Leather is held together by stiching, that follows the contours of the barrel and trigger guard. ![]() The metal clips, which are highly polished, are held into the leather with screws; and are then stiched around. ![]() ![]() the screws are in so well, that they actually make the leather bulge out around them, slightly. I tried the holster out in many positions. Anywhere from mexican carry to sob. imo the most comfortable spot to wear it was between 4 & 5 o'clock positions. ![]() ![]() The holster holds the weapon very close to the body. now, there are only two things that i did not like about it. a) it's not tuckable. i didn't order it to be tuckable, so that is my mistake. not a fault per say in the holster. Greg does offer it in a tuckable model, but for an added cost. (imo, go for the tuckable. i should have read the site better and ordered mine that way. good for greg, cause he'll be making more money off of me) b) no retention screw. the retention is set. being that the holster is new, and not broken in, the retention is wonderful, but leaves me wondering what it will be when it gets more broken in. now... one more thing i have to review... customer service. Let me tell you now. I've dealt with alot of online dealers (anywhere from motorcycle gear to holsters, cloths to cooking items). Greg Dunn is an A Class of guy. All my emails were returned the same day, the following day at the latest. I was kept abreast of the progress of my holster the entire way through the process. It was sent up USPS priority mail, so it got to me rather quickly. Greg Stated that he shipped that way 100% of the time. All in all, Rangergunleather.com gets an A+, and two thumbs up from me. now i gotta run so i can order another for my sig, and a tuckable for my xd. Last edited by arolfsen; 11-24-2006 at 04:49 PM. |

I have had my evolution OWB for about 2 weeks also for my 1911 and I find all the same things to be true a nice quality piece of leather fitted and sewn together in all the right spots and after putting it on you forget you have a 39oz pistol on your hip whether your stabding , sitting , or moving around and tucks in tight. nice piece you got I am awaiting one for my XD now maybe another week ( I hope Greg )

Arolfsen, are you military? I have about a zillion of that same tshirt.
I am knocking them out as fast as I can, the Raider seems to have caught on pretty well. Check out the pics on my website of final holster of the USMC series.
