I just had meprolight 3 dot green tritium night sights installed. The problem with them is that you can see the loaded chamber indicator sticking up and covering the bottem 10th of the front post dot. I guess I will learn to live with it for now. I used them today at a USPSA shoot. I wonder if a person could have the loaded chamber indicator shaveed down just a tad?

My Experences with Trijicons, Dawsons, TFO' s, and BigDots
After extensive use and testing, I have standardized on the TFO Green/Green on all my pistols.
I ran Trijicons (Green/Greens) on my Glock-19 for the last 13 years. I had initially gone Green/Yellows, but found the dual color distracting and slowing me down during night fire shooting. The Greens were bright enough at night, but the small white outlines surrounding the tritium inserts, posing as a three dot daylight sight, were way to minuscule to be useful. That resulted in pretty much using a standard sight picture with the front and rear sights during daylight or indoor lighting, but on a 4" barrel they seemed too fat to get a fast and precise sight picture. I ended up painting the entire front sight (around the tritium inserts of course) blaze orange, which made daylight and indoor illuminated shooting darn fast, especially at 10yrds or less, where I'd just use the entire front sight as a pseudo "orange dot". Trying to go cheap on the sights for my new XD last year, I ordered just the Dawson front fiber sight from our Moderator (great price, great service!) and blacked out the rear white factory dots. Boy that was a mistake! The Dawson’s fiber dot is pretty small and not all that bright in daylight and pretty much useless in indoor or low lighting. The blade width of the sight is narrow however, which was very nice for precision shooting on a 5" barrel. For a carry gun, the factory three dots were a much better solution. I could see how the Dawson’s would be good for outdoor competition shooting though, but not for carry. So, I scrapped the Dawson’s and installed TFO's on my XD. I was immediately stunned and thrilled by how bright they were at night, in daylight and in indoor illumination. Their bright green glow really seems like it is just "Turned On" all the time, through all lighting transitions. A newbie shooter friend at the range complained just last week that she though they were too bright and were distracting her! (I Told her to focus on front sight/target only and that solved that problem...man she was hot...did I mention that? I mean smoken hot! I had her wearing a cute little Safariland Level-3 tactical vest… oh my! Everyone was checking her out the whole time... but I digress... At this point, with the help of my fresh TFO's, I realized that the tritium of my 13 year old Trijicon’s on my Glock-19 were way past their useful life. Since I was using my Glock as a carry gun, I figured that maybe the XS-Big Dot Tritium’s might be a good choice. The "dot the I" concept seemed cool and I was impressed with the Big Dot white front sight I've seen over the gun shop counter installed on a few guns. I ordered them up; they installed easy and seemed pretty cool. Then I went to the range: not very accurate past 10 yards. (I had read somewhere that they were pretty useless past 15 yards, and they were right!) Now, that doesn't bother me too much since it is a carry gun (given the FBI stats and all) and I tell ya, they are darn fast at 7 yards or less (not quite as fast as the orange paint though). I found that I wasn't keen on the "Dot the I" concept after all, since they are kinda tough to figure out how high the "Dot" of the "I" should be for the correct sight picture. I was OK with them for a few months, until I happened to see both my XD and the Glock sitting side by side on my nightstand one night. Man, what a difference in illumination! The TFO's illumination is truly twice as bright and twice the size as the XS's at night. I realized that the tritium in the TFO’s illuminates the fiber in the sights, which resulting in the large and bright night sight. The XS’s seemed pretty dim after this (especially the rear “I”), so I ended up yanking them and Installed some TFO’s on the Glock and I couldn’t be happier! (Except now I have to sell the XS’s and the Dawsons…Anyone? Anyone?) Only downside to the TFO’s on the XD is that they are not a simple slide in/drop in affair like they were on the Glock. It would be well worth $25 or so to have your gunsmith install them, trust me! (I broke the front tritium insert on my XD/TFO install, even after spending 3 hours with a file trying to get them to fit). If you haven’t figured it out yet, I whole heartedly suggest going with the TFO’s. The only other distant thing I would consider otherwise would be the Trijicons and a bottle of orange paint.

Don't use powderblast, or take your barrel out to use it. It's not that hard to clean a slide with hosing it from a spray can.
