Don's guide rod questions
At the risk of this being a stupid question......would the installation of a DGR void the Springfield warranty? you know, modification, etc....)
Also, I was on www.pistolgear.com. wondering what everyone thinks about the difference between the standard DGR and the stainless one. any advantages one over the other? And finally, success stories with DGR? Just trying to figure out what I'm going to do next to my brand-spanking new XD9. JAZZ |

No, it will not void your warranty. If you are looking for feedback on the DGR, a search will offer up 100s of reviews. Thanks for visiting PistolGear!

i just put in a dgr in my service model 40 cal, i haven't been able to shoot it yet, and i can hardly wait, but by just cycling the slide i think it is really gonna help out the controlability of the weapon, which i have no problems doing now, but the easier the better for follow up shots. they are a snap to put in, i got #22 model.
i don't see why it would void the warranty, if you did have an issue with the weapon, and needed to send it back in later on then just put the original back in, send it off, and put it back in when you get it back! |

Hey JAZZ! I put one in the wife's XD-40 Service about 4 months ago - this one was with the new bushings that Don's had come out with. Also went to Wolff Springs and purchased their Spring Set for the XD which came with 17lb, 19lb and 21lb springs. Along with the stock spring (which is 22lbs - I think) you have complete adjustablity in how the gun handles.
Nothing but good things to say about Don and his guide rods! Mike

to be totally honest, i'm not sure what it does for you other than add a little bit of weight (not sure if it's enough to really help with muzzle flip), incresae reliability(solid rod vs the stock which is several pices), and it look way cool. i can't tell any difference in handling when i shoot it, it hasn't made me any more accurate. it is easy to clean however and i can't emphasize enough, it looks way, way, way better.
i plan on buying one for my tactical but it's mostly for looks. I'd recommend it just for that alone. don't let anyone tell you the DGR is a the panacia to all your shooting whooows. I'm actaully interested though in the tungston but for my 40. not sure if they make that yet... just my opinion.

even if the new guide rod dosen't help in cutting down the muzzle flip, the main plus for me is having a two piece guide rod and spring, i like torturing my xd, and the stock guide rods and recoils springs ae hard to get inside and clean effectively!

I installed a DGR on my XD40 Svc with a 22# spring and have since changed to a 20# spring with significant more reliability. Maybe it's just my gun and/or my shooting technique or the loads I shoot but the 20#er works 100% whereas the 22#er worked only 95%. Based on my experience I'd pick the 20# spring.
