16-round clip in NY

I live in NY, where my local gunsmith as well as others have told me that the legal limit is a 10-round mag. BUT, I was at Gander Mtn yesterday and they were selling 16-round 9mm XD clips. I suppose I could find out for sure by calling my local gov't office but mayve someone in here from NY could shed some light for me? thanks!!

I know NY city does not allow anyting over 10. But Im not sure if it for the whole state.

I dont wanna be the one to bust your balls, but a clip will not work with an XD, you need a magazine. Clicky for the difference.

Oh man, Jazz, you really opened a can of worms calling the magazine a clip. I joined and asked a similar question, found out thats definately a pet peeve of many around here and they will make sure you receive a quick and thorough education. Anyway, welcome and watch out, as its coming.

Yup, anything over 10rnds is illegal in NY. I think there is a loop hole that you can own larger mags if they were manufactured before the ban to effect (1994). But seeing as the ban is older than our guns, no such mags exist.

Order one and see what happens!

And I guess you won't call it a "clip" anymore, huh?

Actually, I did grab it when I saw it and went right to the checkout. I thought it might have accidentally been shipped from the factory, maybe in the same box as the 10rnders, but sure enough on the receipt they had a store SKU for 16rnd....strange!! No bells or whistles went off after I walked out the door. Now that I've posted on here, I'll probably see the FBI at my house tonight.
