I just made up my mind on night sights

Ok, so I suppose there are two scenarios where this might happen. One, i could be in my bedroom looking down the hallway, to a somewhat lit up living room, or hallway just outside my apartment. Or the other way around, looking toward a somewhat lit up bedroom. Tonight, as I was trying out my new holster in the house, I went to the kitchen and on my way back, the bedroom is dark, but the computer room lamp is on. so you could clearly make out and identify a person who would be standing in the doorway of either room, even the bathroom doorway on the left side of the hall. I drew my EMPTY gun, and pointed down that way. I couldn't see crap. Was absolutely no way I could make out any sort of sight picture at all. I tried several times, still nothing. I realised, if this were a situation where instant shot placement was critical, there was no way i could have done it.

So, I think I am gonna end up sending my XD in for night sights since most likely this will be my home defense gun. and whatever carry gun I get, unless it's a gun taht can't get night sights, it's going to have them on it as well. I wasn't quite sold on night sights yet. Because i always figured, you'll be able to get a sight picture if you can have enough light to identify your target. But not true, when you have light coming from the side illuminating an entry way, but behind that a pitch black room that gives no lighted backdrop to make out that sight picture.

If the gun is home defense/bedroom/nightstand gun, night sights are manditory IMO.

Plus you gotta add in the factor of maybe just waking up when you need the gun the most. I don't know about you, but my eyes are pretty foggy when I just wake up. I have been really thinking about this myself, and I intend on getting some night sights as soon as I have the extra cash.

I think night sights are a wise investment. I really feel good about having them on my .40 subcompact. Even during the day, I find myself reacquiring my targets more easily.

I would like to install some on my shotty at some point as well as that is my primary home defense weapon. Of course, precision is really not as much of a concern with a shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot as it is with a single .40 round.

Anything in the general direction the barrel is pointing is going to die if I pull the trigger.

any carry gun or home defense gun should have night sights. just my opinion. I have Truglo TFO green/green. Very bright at night and with the fiber optic tubes its really bright in light as well. much better than factory sights.
