Mods for my 45ACP Service for CCW
I'm fairly new to firearms, ok I'm really new...about 9 months of experience. I train a lot and I carry my 45 ACP Service (4") and now I'm reading about modifications to the firearm...Don's Rod, Grips, Sights, Trigger Pulls, etc...
I'm really comfortable with my firearm however, I have no clue what I could be missing. With that said, if you a person with experience knew everything you know now, what would you modify on your pistol and in what order? I appreciate your feedback! |

Hmmmm..... first on my list would be a triggerjob (no less than 4lbs) from either Scott at Springer Precision or Rich at Canyon Creek. I can vouch for Scott as he has done amazing work on both my XD and my 1911.
After that I would take the best training class I could find. If you want improved performance out of your handgun the absolute best thing to work on is the thing holding it. Seriously. There are other mods that will definitely improve your pistol but in a bang for the buck catagory you are way better off spending $400 plus ammo on a course by any of the top shooters/schools. The difference will amaze you. Nothing beats great training.

Believe me, I understand the training aspect. I've taken a a good amount of instruction and as a prior martial arts instructor I understand that one can never have enough training.
In regards to Frostyeyes, your point is well advised. |

I usually put a set of night sights on my pistols if they don't have them. You can't hit something if you can't see your sights. Everything after that is just bells and whistles to me. A trigger job is nice, but not totally necessary. Guide rod and different springs are nice, but again, not toatlly necessary. It all depends on what YOU want and how you want YOUR pistol set up to do what you want it to do.
I've got night sights on my Service, but still don't have them on my Sub-Compact. Next on my list is the sights for the SC and then a trigger job for both of them. |
