I have dropped my gun from about 3 feet behind me once. I dont know how it landed but the TFOs still function properly. It was carpeted floor but it was a nice hard thud. Id say they are shielded well.

I am thinking going with James. He charges a bit more for the sights but installs the TFO's for free. Do the TFO's carry a warranty?

probably a stupid question but ... does the install of these sights mess with Kydex holsters. Are they taller or wider and hence dont fit?

Boriqua: As long as the holster has a sight channel for the front sight it should be just fine. Make sure you get the right holster for your model as well.

Help Save an XD-45 from Destruction...
Well, I've got a set of TFOs that I need to install. I even bought a B&J Universal Sight Pusher to do the job.
What I need to know is, HOW DO YOU GET THE #$%@ FACTORY SIGHTS OFF THE SLIDE? Either the damn things are welded on there, or the sight tool is worthless. Or, I suppose, I just don't know what the hell I'm doing. Is there some trick to getting the factory sights off? Do you have to slide them off towards the left side of the gun? Or to the right? I'm about ready to take an angle grinder to them...please, help! |

TFO front sight broke!
Well, I was about to do some dryfire practice with my XD, and I noticed the front sight was really dim. (I have the TFO's). The fiber optic tube is now loose in the front sight. STINK! I really liked by TFO's, but 100% reliability is my requirement for my carry pistol. I will leave the TFO's on my competition XD, but will replace them on my carry gun.
I looked at Trijicon and Mepro's. I guess I will give the Mepro's a try since they have the dual color available for the XD. (I like the green / yellow version.) The pistol with the broken TFO has not been dropped or rough handled but has had about 6,000 rounds through it, and has been drawn and dryfired about eleventy bazillion times! My XD's are still flawless though. No failures at all, EXCEPT for my TFO front sight, but it was added so that isn't a mark against the XD. Bummer!

Well, after going on about how they don't break unless smacked hard.....
My front TFO fiber disappeared on me in the middle of shooting a stage on Sunday. It was a Bill Drill like stage, so I KNOW i didn't hit it on something. On the plus side, TruGlo offered to fix it for free. On the minus side, I had to send them the slide for them to do it. Off it goes.... I am now officially XD-LESS!!!!!! Rich has the slide from my 40 and now TruGlo has the slide from my 9mm. Guess I'm gonna be shooting 1911's this wekeend.

TruGlo just sent me new fiber for my front sight. I noticed it was dimmer than the rears, called them, and they sent out the replacement with instruction on how to do the replacement. Have not put it in yet.

????
They told me they couldn't do that. They said they'd have to fix it themselves.

I highly recommend the TruGlo TFOs. Mine were installed on my XD45 by Canyon Creek when they did my trigger job. Target aquisition is much faster now and I haven't had any problem with them being damaged in competition shooting.
