Are the rails on our gun (in my case, the XD 9 service) a standard size/format? I read about Glock rails, "1913" rails or Picatinny rails. The reason I ask is that I am looking for a light that will fit on my XD as well as the AR-15.

well, my tlr-1 fits my XD rail just fine, and the quad rail on my ar15. So I'm guessing that the majority of lights out there, will do the same as well.

If it fits the AR it will fit the XD, but always try before you buy. I am sure there is a shop around you somewhere that has both and you can say
"Oh I am just looking"

They are all standard now. Any vendor trying to change it will have a huge uphill battle.

my m6 light works on my glock 19 and my xd as well.
