Question Night Sights - yes or no

How many of you think night sights are necessary for CCW, If your in a low light situation your still not going to be able to see or identify your target unless you have a light, but who wants to carry a light on their belt. I've tested my factory sights on my XD in low light and I can see them fine, and if its any darker you wont be able to see your target. Or would you recommend night sights or a light for a home defense gun only. Sorry for this dumb question. Please explain. Thanks

I like night sights. For me, it's added peace of mind because It allows me to put more focus on the target in low light.

I'd say to go with them (night sights). Before the birth of my son I used to keep a handgun for self defense on a shelf in the closet. Before I got the night sites I'd have to feel around for the gun in the dark, but once I had Trijicons put on I could locate my gun instantly by the glowing green dots up on the shelf.

I prefer a flashlight so that I have control over when I have illumination.

In a low light situation, like outside in the evening, the night sights are a big help.
In darker situations, you're going to need some sort of flashlight, BUT....
The flashlight will be pointed at the BG. You will not be shining it on your sights, so you will still need the NS to be able to line up the shot.

that depends on what lighting technique you train for. personally, i prefer modified fbi. that way the light is up, and behind you, illuminating your side arm. either that or light supported (gun resting on the light wielding hand's wrist.

btw, a good idea when using a light....

illuminate, move, fire. don't illuminate and then stand there challenging the bg.

There are plenty of light levels where you can identify a person but not be able to see your sights well.

I agree!!

In the classes I have taken, the low light shooting drills were set up so you could just see the target but not your sights. We also did some drills in total darkness using flashlights. Most of the time you could not see your sights very well when using the flashlight bot of course the target was well lit up.

From my class experience shooting in the "dark house", night sights are very nice to have.
