EFK Firedragon conversion, 40 to 9mm - UPDATE

I couldn't find my old thread so I'm posting a new one. I recently purchase the efk firedragon barrel that converts the xd-40 to 9mm. I tried it with my 40 and 357 sig mags and experienced multiple failures.

I do not recommend this combination! I ordered a 9mm xd magazine, used it today with over 150 rounds and it is as smooth as silk. Actually, better than my stock 40 barrel, which at times, has FTF issues. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.

I'm considering switching to the the conversion barrel, loaded with Federal Hydra Shock 9mm as my home defense since it is so reliable and I'm concerned with the factory 40 barrell's reliability.

Thoughts?

Everything I read on Dragon's site says to use 9mm mags on that type of XD conversion. If you haven't already go to:

http://www.efkfiredragon.com/proddet...p?prod=XDS9SBC

Hope this helps, I plan on doing the same thing this Spring.

Thanks

Yeah, sink the extra couple of twenties and get some 9mm magazines. Just get factory mags, not ProMags. Springs in the factory models are better.

Get a real XD 9. I thought about getting the EFK and talked to a few of the guys in my group that had had them. (I shoot with TXDPSA) A couple of them noticed it wasnt as accurate as a factory 9 gun. So I did an evan swap with a guy that had 2 9's and never had a 40. couldnt be better. For shooting matches, the only way to go is a 9. Less recoil and faster site aquisition.

Not to mention the Ranger-T 147gr +P+ is so close to a 40 anyway it doesnt matter. You just get a few more rounds with the 9mm.

Hmmmmm

Check with Pistol Gear (site sponser) they sell those barrels. Unless they are sold out too.

What you experienced seems to be pretty common with most people who try it. The 40 and 357 mag's feed lips are slightly wider apart than a 9mm mag. Using 9mm rounds in 40/357 mags allows the rounds to rude too high and usually jams when the slide picks them up on its forward travel. If you don't want to spend the money on new mags, most folks will bend the feed lips in slightly, however this can then cause problems if you load 40/357 rounds for use with your factory barrel. Right now MidwayUSA and Pistol Gear have really good prices on factory new SA OEM mags.
