I know I only have a couple hundred thousand rounds downrange, but I don't think that sight is going to make me faster. Why? Because I've shot it. To me, it is the same as shooting with the rear sight removed or filed down, which is perfectly fine for close distances.

Don't get me wrong the Big Dot is fine for close up shooting, but to say it is faster doesn't make sense when the limiting factor for close quarters engagement is physical dexterity not sight aquisition. I think it has many limits when their are products out there that have less, so I chimed in.

One, I never said anything about them making YOU faster. But do they make me faster, one that doesn't have years of competitive shooting experience? You betcha. FOR ME, they're much faster to align and I just plain think they're easier to use than the stock sights. For my needs, the Big Dots is the fastest sight to acquire that I've ever used and I've had opportunity to play with numerous other types.

I was extremely skeptical about them at first, but after several of my instructor friends recommended them I gave them a "shot" and was immediately sold.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Chaim Stein, and as was mentioned, I am the inventor of these sights. I haven't been surfing the forums lately as often as I'd like, so I'm afraid I showed up a bit late to this thread.

In reading the preceding posts, it occurs to me that several people have compared SureSight to other sighting systems on the market, or other systems that were once on the market. While I suppose comparisons are inevitable, I'd like to point out two things about SureSight that may make such comparisons less than accurate.

1. SureSight is the ONLY sight on the market that was specifically developed to be aimable while the primary focus of your eye is on the target, not the sights. While it can also be aimed in the traditional front-sight focus way, research has shown that the vast majority of gunfight survivors do not recall seeing their sights. More than likely, there are two primary reasons for this.

One is that the shooters were experiencing a condition known as "distance only eyesight". This condition can occur if a person feels sudden fear or stress, and the "fight or flight" reflex kicks in.

Another reason for this may be the fact that it takes the eyes of even a young fit shooter about three quarters of a second to shift focal lengths, as from the front sight to the target. At the range, this is fine. But in a fight, critical decisions must be made that require focusing on the target. (i.e. is that a gun or a wallet in his hand? Is he trying to kill me?) Once this data is gathered and a decision to shoot made, pausing for .75 seconds while shifting one's focus back to the front sight for the shot can seem like an unreasonably long time. (Consider that a shooter of average ability can crank of three rounds with a double action revolver in the same .75 seconds) Therefore, most gunfight survivors don't recall seeing their sights. To remedy this, SureSight was specifically designed to give a useable sight picture while the eye is looking at the target.

2. SureSight is the ONLY sight on the market that capitalizes on a human being's inborn ability to complete shapes. Assuming normal brain function, all human beings are born with the ability to complete shapes. People are hard-wired to complete shapes, as in turning the front and rear sight shapes of SureSight into a triangle. This phenomenon is known as the Gestalt Principle of Closure. (see www.suresight.com for details and diagrams—it may not be up yet, but will be shortly. We’re currently re-working our website. If it's still not up, you can see a quick description HERE)

If any of you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to post here and I will do my best to respond in a timely manner.
