Sorry, but it is not a radically new design...
I've shot similiar designs in the past and they might look neat but I've never been impressed with the way the actually work for all around shooting. Not having the rear sight notch to reference with in recoil makes them much slower than the traditional notch and post type sights when shooting multiple shots. It has many of the shortcomings of the Big Dot sight also. |

I am looking forward to the release of these. I know that TRUGLO use to market them for Leibster, and if he is flipping the bill on this run, I am sure it is one big coin.
I like new ideas, and being similar (not the same) to those on Steyr pistols, these sights, like all sights, will have both fans and critics. Let us wish a fellow XDTalker great success (raising glass in air) to a new idea. SureSight ![]() Steyr Triangle/Trapazoid Sights

I was torn between these and the Big Dot sights, after really looking into both designs I don't think I'll get either of them, I will likely either stick to the stock sights, or go for an adjustable night sight.
Suggestions & or opinions on this are welcome as I'm still not quite sure which way I'll go on it. Presently I'm leaning toward adjustable night sights. My main use is for HD and fun at the range.

XD sights
Dawson's adjustable night sights are pretty great for an all around target/night sight.

I think that they're a great idea, but I'd really like to SEE a set before going to all the trouble of swapping out sights.

I can't wait for these sights to finally be available. Granted, I'm a noob, maybe 1000 rounds through my XD9 and 500 through my XD45 (I know, I know, that's backwards) but just looking at these it seems like it'd be so intuitive to sight up. Make a triangle, tip on target, pull trigger. As it is now I often loose the front sight on either side of the rear sight. Poor gun control, I know, and I'm getting better, but it still happens pretty easily. Seems that these sights would go a long way toward preventing that from happening. Or at least recovering more quickly to get the triangle back in shape.
I plan to be first in line to give 'em a whirl! |

Sights are for aiming right? The more complex the sight the harder it is to use under stress. People have been using similiar types of sight for concealled carry for a long time by just removing the rear sight competely or milling the rear sight down. I've seen some good shooters just take off the sight completely for carry because for the distances they can just sight down the barrel and this is accurate enough for close distances.
In a notch and post style sight your eyes can see the front sight coming into the rear sight as it settles in recoil, so you can make the adjstments to alignment as it comes down in recoil and fire the shot the instant the front sight is equal with the top of the sight. That is much simpler and faster to do than waiting for the sight to "land" on the base of the rear sight and then having to adjust it right left and up down. When evaluating a sight, you need to keep in mind you seldom, if ever use it like you see in the pictures. The sight is constantly moving. Whether you are bring up the gun, or the slide is moving, so you have to look at the sight in motion if you want to get your mind around how the sight actually works. I've used a very similiar design to this triangle used on the 1911's years ago and it looked cool, but it was very difficult to use when trying to shoot at high speed. If you take a long time to aim and get everything just right, they will work fine, but no better than a front sight only from my experience. Last edited by Loves2Shoot; 10-27-2006 at 09:48 AM. |

I think alot of people will disagree with you on the Big Dots, amongst them many highly acclaimed instructors and people that have spent an awful lot of time on the sharp end of the spear.
Personally, I find the Big Dots extremely easy to acquire and line up for a shot.Much faster than the stock sights. Are they suitable for bullseye shooting at 20-25 yards? Nope. But for selfdefense ranges, for putting bullets center mass? You betcha. |
