I think I solved the problem with the DGR and the 22# spring in the XD40 Service. Switch to the 20# spring. I test fired 150 rounds today through the gun with the 20# recoil spring and had no problems.

Very little difference in felt recoil or speed in getting back on target.

Kraigster, just interested in a follow up. Is all still well since you changed to the 20# spring? I'm just curious as I recently purchased a Service 40, and was interested in the DGR and 22# spring as well.

Also, I'm curious, I've seen a pic of your OD 40 and efk barrel, and the barrel seems to extend past the frame further than the stock barrel, but less than the 1/2 inch extension they offer. Is this something special? I posted a question on this forum earlier, and others are also intrigued:
Have you seen this barrel?

Can you enlighten us?

All is well with the 20# spiring and the DGR in my XD40 Service but even better, I replaced the 22# spring (which only had a few hundred rounds fired with it and was giving me return to battery problems) with a new 22#, and I seem to be good to go with both. Nevertheless, for carry I continue to revert back to the factory recoil spring assembly. I still don't have "100 percent warm fuzzies" with the DGR and any spring for carry. That's just me.

As for the EFK, yes the barrel does extend about a quarter of inch out.. I happen to like the look. I did not ask for it, that's just the way it came so I assume that's standard EFK operating procedure. I did ask and EFK complied, that the barrel be matte grey vs. shiny. The barrel was completely drop in and has performed very well for me. But again for carry, I revert back to the stock barrel.

Here's another shot:

My question is not anywhere as technical as those in this thread, however, need to ask.

I just purchased a new XD-40 and notice the recoil spring assembly projects forward of the face of the receiver about 1/16". I noticed another gun in the shop where the assembly was tight against the receiver. I wrote to SA and they responded that that's how they are, but it just doesn't feel right to me. It is the same whether the gun is cocked or not.

Does the assembly on any of your guns project out as does miine?

They are designed that way for a reason:

When pushed up against an object, the slide is less likely to be pushed out of battery if the extended part of the rod hits the object before the slide.
