24/7 Express Sights Range report (pics)

I recently had james do a matte black Dura-Coat and 24/7 standard dot sights for me. First off I had the pleasure of talking to james over the phone a few times while he had my slide and let me say, he is very polite, took the time to answer all my questions and he did a great job with the Dura-Coat and sights. I chose the standard dot over the big dot because I heard the standard dot was a little more acurate with target shooting.
These sights are fast, I could tell from the first time I picked the gun up that target acquisition was going to be MUCH faster.
It took a few rounds to get use to the new sights, until now ive only used a 3 dot system. After about 50 rounds I had it down. Here are a few pics of my XD and target from the range today.

Thumbs up

Pretty cool. So you really like them? I’ve been tossing around getting me a set. I’m the same, three dot is all I’ve ever used. I was thinking of getting some Tru Glo TFO’s but they just seem too long.

They look nice. You said you had to shoot fifty rounds to get it down, what’s different about the sight picture?

Thanks,
Robert

I've been looking at a similar (aprox) sight systems Henie straight eight...So I would be very interested in the cost and how your doing with them at ranges larger than 15 yards (15-25).

How are you double taps?

Well with the 24/7 your rear sight is not notched out like a 3 dot system, its more like a ,U, shape and has a tritium filled vertical bar. the front sight has a tritium filled dot. Instead of lining up three vertical dots you line up the dot on the front sight horozontally over the bar on the rear sight, to make it look like an, i, dotting the eye they call it.

Sorry havent taken them beyond 10 yrds. The above pic showes what I did at 10 yrds the first trip to the range. These are deffinatly not bullseye shooting sights. They were designed for fast target acquisition/self defense.

I kind of like that! I know that target looks good and all
but it seems that you would lose some accuracy have you noticed this?

You will lose a little accuracy if your doing slow, very delibrate bullseye shooting. But if your doing speed shooting, double taps on a silhouette to practice for self defense then your target acquisition will be much faster and shot placement better as well. Bear in mind that these sights are for your carry or nightstand gun, your self defense gun. Dont put these sights on a gun that is used for target shooting only.

Very nice! I am also used to the 3 dot system , and although the target sight is quick and fast, I am having a tough time adapting to it. On the flip side, I have shot an XD with the TFO and almost second nature for me. Hence, if anyone is interested, I am willing to trade my BigDot Xpress night Sights for TFO (I have the BD Xpress on my XD9 Service)

Again, thanx for sharing the pics and info on te BigDot Xpress sights.

I dont have the Big Dot 24/7 Xpress, I have the Standard Dot. The standard dot is only slightly larger than the dot on the factory front sight. The big dot is, well, BIG way big IMO. I think you would have been happier if you went with the standard dot.
