I have the 24/7 Big Dots on my one Sig. They are fast but you definately loose some accuracy. I had them installed years ago and while I am satisfied with them, I probably will not put them on another handgun.

I began shooting USPSA and I have Bomar rear and Dawson front on my STI. After shooting thousands upon thousands of rounds, I can aquire a sight picture just as fast with the Bomars as I can my BigDots. I think it all comes down to practice practice practice.

MOST self defense shotings take place at VERY close ranges and I believe you will never see more than a flash sight picture anyways, so alot of instinctive shooting will come into play. If the possibility of a longer shot comes into play, it would be nice to have standard notch and post sights. I refer to a flash sight picture as an acceptable sight picture for the given distance. Only the individual will know whats acceptable for him/her.

Obviously if the target is only a few feet away, you will not need to have your sights perfectly aligned in order to hit your target, the farther away your target, the more precise your sight picture has to be. This is the whole basis for the "V" shaped rear sight and why they did not design these sights for "target shooters". It gives you a fast "acceptable" sight picture.
