....Streamlight will have a remote switch for the TLR series before the end of the year....don't know, though, if they will make one for rifles. |

I personally like the M3, I carry my 40 tac with the light on it all the time (the light never comes off), comes off fast and easy with no tools, not even a coin, plus its plenty bright and I shoot it regularly with the light attached, never a problem with recoil damaging the bulb. I put the XD thru hell when we train, it gets handled roughly, banged, bumped, beaten and shot A LOT.....The M3 handles it as well as the XD itself.
why would there be a need for a remote switch? the switch is right there at your fingertips?

Would probably be able to get other holster makers to do the same, if you asked I bet. |

Just FYI on a few questions left unanswered.
First, the M3 does not fit the XD as well as the X series lights or even the TLR-1 because they are made to different specifications. The TLR-1 "key" as well as the rail system on the TLR-1 are made to 1913 Mil Spec / Picatinny specification. The M3 is made (many years back) to fit Glock rails, which are different. In many cases, the M3 will fit tightly to the XD and the latch bar included with the M3 should be replaced with the 1913 latch bar (also included). (Side note - Streamlight makes replacement "keys" for their TLR products. If they are to be used on Glocks or S&W, technically they should be swapped.) The M3X is available in a 1913 rail specification and it's recommended that this model be used on XD rails. There are accessories (in the form of replacement backplates) that provide remote switches (long gun and pistol version) for the M series lights. There are remote switches and contoured remotes for the X-series. I'm attaching a photo of a contoured remote on a Glock with M6X to give an idea. Additionally, the M3X is 30% brighter than the M3 or TLR-1 and has an adjustable beam (not found on LED lights). Hope this helps.

I have an M3X and I love it. Its a very white, insanely bright light (125 lumens) and its waterproof up to 65 feet. Um... ok, well that should make it ok in the rain or if I drop it in the water for some reason.
It fits the XD perfectly, doesn't noticably affect the balance of the gun and comes on and off easily. I don't think you can go wrong with either light, IMO. I just liked this one because it was so much brighter.

XD45 Service model... just put a TLR-1 on it. Nice combination, lotta light, LED white light is great and battery life is superior to M-series.
Just do it.

Another vote for the TLR I
I can't tell you how one compares to the other because I only have the TLR I. It fits well on the rail. The switch is easily accessible and manipulated. Some folks use their weak hand to turn the light on/off. Others prefer to use the trigger finger. Both are possible with this light for right and left handed individuals. The light is plenty bright and the unit has a good battery life.

I've never tightened my TLR1 more than finger tight and have absolutely no issues with it staying in place. I find it's the perfect light for my XD45 tactical. I find it very easy to use the switch with my trigger finger. It's more than bright enough. The arc of the beam is just right, even though it's not adjustable.
I would want something a little smaller for a Service model, cause I just don't like the light sticking out past the barrel. It's a personal thing. .

TLR-1 is led, water proof, and all metal. u give up all that for a little brighter light in the m3.
