CC Comp Trigger Job
I am going to send my XD9 Tac to CC for a competition trigger job and I see that he offers both a 2lb and a 4lb trigger job. Which one is best for
competition? Is the difference noticable? Also just wonder what everyone in the group has purchased and if anyone has had a chance to try them both? |

There have to be about a thousand threads on the CC trigger jobs. And another thousand about Springer precision trigger jobs. I think 14 people from Houston sent their XDs to Springer at the same time, you could probably go to one of their shoots and try them. www.txdpsa.com

The weight is not the main consideration with a trigger job. The reduction in the triggers movement and reset will have a major impact on your groups and splits. I would suggest going with something around 3lbs, unless you have been competing for awhile. If the trigger is too light, it is easy to get an AD while riding the trigger.
Finally, I would suggest you give Rich a call, discuss the options with him and allow him to help you with your decision. There is nothing more beautiful than the relationship between a Gunsmith and his customer. Well, maybe there are a few things. OS

Thanks clarifying things OS! (BTW congrats on the Wisconsin Win).
I have been reading the numerous other posts previously to posting this one as mentioned by "jnclement" and never saw anything that mentioned the differences in weights as offered by Rich. (maybe I did not dig enough?) Last edited by Xfan; 08-09-2006 at 09:52 AM. |

I orginally had a 3.5 lb trigger done on my XD45 then went down to a 2lb trigger. It is very noticable. My groups have gotten better too. And since you are in Houston, you are in luck, as there is a good mix of people on here that have both Springer and Canyon Creek trigger jobs.
www.txdpsa.com Most of the members are from Houston, and you can find a lot of them at the ranges on the weekend. They also have a monthly match at Impact Zone. Very helpful bunch of guys.

I have one of Rich's patented little miracles on both my XD-9s. I have a 4# trigger on my Service which I use for HD, occasional carry and as a backup for USPSA Production competition. I also have a Tactical that is used solely for USPSA Production with a 2.5# trigger.
As Old School said, the major improvement comes from the reductions in take up and over travel. While there is a mildly noticeable difference in trigger break effort between them, the difference in performance is negligible. If you are going to use your XD solely for competion, I recommend something around the 2.5# pull that I have. However, if you are expecting to use the pistol for carry and/or self defense, I recommend you stay with the 4# job. Regardless of what pull weight you choose, a CC trigger job is just awesome!

I've got my new 9 Tactical at CC Customs as speak. Under the recommendation of an XD Talk member who I respect, I went with a 3 pound trigger pull as it will be used for comp only. It will lighten a little over time so it will end up a little lighter than three pounds. Since I am relatively new to the gaming end of shooting, it seemed the wisest move for me.
