Holster Question
I am done searching. No luck. Yet.
I have seen holsters on TV and in movies that do NOT require a belt. I am not a belt person. I keep my leatherman in my pocket and if it wears a hole in my pants so what? I really, really do not like belts. Hence my problem. The holster that came with my XD-9 uses a belt. All the websites sell holsters that require belts. Does anyone know of holsters that have a simple, open-ended clip (not a loop) that just slips over the waistband (akin to a clip on a walkie talkie). I am not looking to do any fastdraws and do not care if I have to hold the holster with my weak hand while drawing. Also, I am not looking to carry it inside my waistband. I would like the same for magazine holders, if possible. I would have thought finding one would have been a simple matter. Boy, was I wrong. Thanks. On edit: Definitely do not want something that mounts to the XD itself (clipdraw?). |

I have never seen any...
The closest I've seen are the metal clips you can put on mini pistols to clip in your pockets. I guess some people would wear paddle holsters without a belt... but don't be surprised when you see them draw the pistol AND the holster together... In my opinion, and experience, a solid, well made belt is as, if not even more, important as a good holster. Wearing a heavy pistol without a belt is a bit like building a penthouse on muddy ground without foundations. If you don't wear a good belt in competitions, people don't only frown at you, they ask you to please get proper gear before going on with the match. I hope this helps, Alex. |

You don't have many options.
Wear a shoulder holster, this worked for a co worker of mine who had kidney surgery and could not tolerate a belt due to the scarring and resulting pain and tenderness. A belly band holster. A very small, light gun in your pocket or an ankle holster. One of those holsters in the gun magazine ads, like a jock strap for the gun. I can't remember the brand. A day planner holster or man purse. Learn to like belts. Really the best option. Buy quality and spend extra for one cut on a contour so you won't have to break it in. |

Federal Holsterworks makes a holster that has a clip that will clip on you waist band. It also has a slot for an extra magazine on the front. Uncle Mikes makes the same thing. The Uncle Mikes brand is about $5 more. I bought my holster from Academy for $15 (Federal Holsterworks).

I don't see how you can carry a pistol on your waist without a belt, your pants will fall down. And if your pants are tight enough to hold up a gun without falling down, how is that any more comfortable than a good belt? Or do you wear suspenders?

For summertime, for shorts and such, a Thunderwear Holster works well. But, it requires some planning to put it on BEFORE your other cloths.
