SC holster options

OK, I've read and looked and read and looked and the more I read and look the more confused I get. In any case, please bear with me, as I'm somewhat new to the idea of carrying a gun on me.

Anyways, now that I am at a second stage of my CCW paperwork here in CA, I figure it's time to start looking at holsters. Problem is that I'm somewhat confused with so many choices. The worst part is that I can't really go to a store and try them and see what they look like (whether they are visible from the outside that is) and how they feel cause most of them are special order.

So, here's the deal: I'm about 5'7", about 150lbs. So yeah, I'm kind of on the skinny side (although not rail skinny like some). I think IWB is going to be my best choice as living in CA I mostly wear tshirts and polo shirts (problem is that most of my tshirts are white ). So following the IWB line I'm thinking crossbreed as it seems that most people are happy with it. What are the other options for a decent IWB holster? Also I looked at their site and it seems that in all the examples they have setup the gun to be drawn on the same side as the shooting arm is. This seems a bit cumbersome to draw as it does ride high: I thought it would have been easier to draw across the belly from the other side? Or not?

Any other suggestions when it comes to warm weather carry?

Also what about shoulder holsters? Heck, seen plenty of them in the movies and while they seem kind of comfy to wear (although I might be wrong) it seems that they are highly visible (winter time I ussually wear a flight jacket when I'm out and about) when you have the jacket unbuttoned or something.

Anyways, please feel free to offer comments/advice/anything that might help me go down the right path. I do realize that I will probably go through more then one holster by the time I'm happy with something, but I do want to go in and start making semi guestimation based educated purchases instead of just closing my eyes and throwing darts at a catalog

Mark at Crossbreed has a new holster called the QuikClip and it can be worn in a cross draw position in IWB. This is in addition to the other positions strong side.

Go to his site http://crossbreedholsters.com and you can see what the new one looks like. If you go to page 25 of the Crossbreed Holster thread, he explains how it works and shows a pic there also.

I carry my XDSC9 in a SuperTuck everyday for ccw and have done so since that holster came out (about 4-5 months IIRC). I love it. Sometimes I forget I have the gun on and have to ck to make sure. I don't carry in a crossdraw position because I don't believe that is a safe way to do so, but everyone has their druthers, that's why I mentioned it above.

I generally wear colored T shirts that cover my gun fine. When I have to tuck the shirt in (usually a dressy shirt) I do and the tuckable part works fine.

Good luck.

try loking at their "tuckables" line i use the Tailgate, and i love it! the extra material at the lower left of the holster keeps it in postion very well without moving around. also i would make sure that ANY holster you do pick out HAS a slide protector , this is the material between your weapon slide and your body which actually does 2 things for you.

1. keeps the gun from riding into your side
2. keeps your body sweat away from your weapons finish thus reducing rust

just my .02

i will say this, i'm considering a OWB holster as my primary carry option (which will still be concealed by my t-shirt or polo) due to the fact that i feel it would be easier to draw if need be then a IWB

I carry my XD40SC in their C-T.A.C. What I like about it is the number of different angles you can adjust the cant to. Although some don't care for the Kydex material, I haven't noticed any excessive gun wear. I ordered my with the c-clips but recently ordered a pair of the v-clips (velcro) for a little better concealment when I use the tuckable option, which I do use. Combine that with a belt with the velcro sewn in from Jim the beltman and I'm good to go.

I second the products available at http://www.highnoonholsters.com/

I carry the Split Decision model. It is an IWB tuckable model with a cant.

Be sure to check the turnaround time if you order a holster that isn't listed as a 'Stocking Item'. The delivery time could be a couple of months or longer. The models they keep in stock usually arrive with a week or so (standard shipping.)

+1 to the CTAC. It's a great holster.

What, precisely, do you mean by hot weather? As in no shirt? Only two holsters I know of that will be perfectly concealed if you wear nothing but shorts:

http://www.pagerpal.com/pager.asp
http://www.thunderwear.com/holsters.asp

I have never worn the thunderwear but they get high marks from a lot of people. I have, however, worn a pagerpal and I must say that it was extremely comfortable and if you don't wear real tight pants then you can just reach in and grab pretty quick (or do the two-hand draw shown in the video and it is still reasonably fast). The gun won't poke you in the least.

The Crossbreed Supertuck is the best bang for the buck. I've got one and it's awesome.
