Sub Compact Magazine Spacers

Just to ask... I read somewhere that you need the magazine spacer in order to use full sized magazines in the subcompact.

My question is... do you really? Is there any adverse effect to shooting the sub-compact without the magazine spacer?

I ask because I also intend to buy an XD-40 Tactical (I keep wanting to call it a "long slide" just so I can avoid using the "Tactical" word... oh well), and if I were ever in a situation where I was carrying my XD-40 as my primary with the sub-compact as a backup, I would want to have the short magazine in the sub-compact and spare full-sized magazines. If ever I had to use my backup I would not want to have to rely on slipping a magazine spacer to use the full sized mags in the sub-compact.

And as a result I would want to be familiar with holding the subcompact in such a position when shooting it, so I want to practice with it that way.

Will it damage the gun? Does it provide some form of stability that actually makes any difference?

I believe this has been talked about before and I know others can offer better help than me. The mag spacer stops the mag from being inserted too far into the gun causing pressure on the ejector.

By slamming a full size mag into a sub compact excess pressure is placed on the ejector and could cause it to break off. If you do use a full size mag be sure not to insert it to far or too hard!

and now to the more educated members of the board maybe you can help..........

There is no adverse affect for using full mags in the sc. It's just a matter of comfort.
