Holster Question

I'm looking for a iwb holster for my xd 45 sevice and xd 40 sc that will ride lower than normal. My love handles seem to push the gun out when I sit down. However when I put the xd 45 in my waistband lower than normal it seems like it's more stable. I have it at a 20 deg cant with the back site still above the belt riding at 3:30. I thought about ordering an ajustable crossbead and setting it real low.
any ideas. Thanks for the help. Jokes are welcome!

The lower the gun sits the more it will follow the contours of your arse / hip so the gun will tilt inwards towards your waist. If you have a little belly budge above the belt line that means you need to exert some force to get your thumb between the stock and your body in order to draw. This mode of carry is very concealable.

High riding holsters (IWB or otherwise) follow the countours of your WAIST (not your hip) so they tilt outwards a bit (if you have a belly bulge). You will be able to aquire a 'combat grip' more easily though you might be losing a small degree of concealability with a high-rise ... i mean concealability with jeans / t-shirt.

Nothing of what I said applies to bean-poles.

Also, don't buy an "adjustable" holster ... buy 2 holsters each made for it's specific mode and you'll be happier. One size doesn't fit all no matter how many screws / doo-dads / belt loop holes they stick onto it.

Good luck!

Try the Tucker Texas Heritage. You should see there banner on one of these pages. I have the TH for my SVC and it is incredibly comfortable and slightly adjustable. I too also have a little bit of love handles and I have no problems with concealing in this holster. Of course this is the only holster I have for my XD but its awesome.

Lance22 is right, one size usually does not fit all.

That is exactly why the CrossBreeds offer adjustable options. Some folks like higher rides and others lower, some more cant and some less. It is a very individual thing.

Some clarification on the adjustable issue seems to be in order as lance22's comment and mine would seem to be contradictory

If you're talking about a holster that offers 16 different ways of carrying, then it probably won't do any of them well, but don't confuse that with one holster designed to be "tuned" to an individual wearer for a specific mode of carry.

thanks fer listenin'

I'll tell you what the Gunsite adjunct instructor told me.

Run Laps or get a different holster system. IWB may not be the way to go for you.

At K&D Holsters, I offer a holster with adjustable kydex clips. The user is able to then adjust the cant and depth of the holster to their preference. It can be worn IWB or OWB simply by putting the clips on the front or back of the holster respectively. There are three holes on each clip that allow the cant/height adjustment. The clips are held on by chicago screws which go through two equal layers of leather. The double layer of leather provides less opportunity for the "holes" to become mishapen. You can pretty much put the holster anywhere on your waistband, inside or out.

The holster model is the Cochise Defender, and you can view it here: http://www.kdholsters.com/iwb-defend.shtml . Included on that page are pictures showing the versatility of the holster. (It's pictured with our Mini-IWB Defender, which functions the same as the Cochise Defender.)

That looks to be a well made holster.
