And if they arent, any possibility of getting one on an XD 45?

I don't think they are illegal... but you'd need a threaded barrel for the 45 and I don't think they make them yet.

To own one, you must jump thru many govenment hoops to get a permit for one and then pay the fee for it. Then from what I hear, it takes forever to get the permit.

Hold a pillow up to the muzzle as you shoot, they only cost 15 bucks.

Yea silencers have a 200$ tax tamp that is a pain to get, but you can get one. Like the above said jump through hoops.

Silencers are just mufflers, and silence nothing. In rality they shoud be on/ avalible for all guns, without restriction. THey would help prevent hearing loss by avid shooters, and in reality there is no real dowside to the public having them. But those who are ignorant dont relize that.

if you feel the need to get up close and personal to kill someone silently, go old school and just use a knife.....

state laws differ, in some states they are illegal

To answer the two questions:

1) No, silencers are not illegal, but as noted above there is a license and fee required. Check with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (http://www.atf.gov).

2) Yes, you can get an extended and threaded barrel for the XD .45 ACP to take a silencer. Check with EFK FireDragon (http://www.efkfiredragon.com).

It's a one time fee. It's a tax that the ATF put on all NFA items to discourage people from buying them. Back in the 1930s when the tax was originally started most long guns only cost $50-$80 so a $200 tax for a $5 item sold in many hardware stores was ridiculous.

Now it's not so prohibitive but you need state laws(or lack therof) to say it's legal and you need a local CLEO to sign-off on your ATF form to be approved.

Theres ways around the sign-off by forming your own corporation, which is pretty easy to do, but I'm getting way beyond the scope of this thread.

Alvin.. I don't see the threaded barrel for the .45 ACP... Can you post a link to the actual product?
