This is funny. Wait till he finds out how much silencers cost. $600+bucks. Then wait till he finds out how unsilent they are on 9mm and above. If you want to silence a pistol and have a quite pistol better make that silenced pistol a 22 cal. It ain't like in the movies dude.

That's why they're called suppressors, not silencers. You'd think for a forum where people get jumped on so violently for calling magazines "clips" someone would have corrected this by now.

Hey just shove a Kotex down the barrel and be done with it. Much cheaper. Course it might not look cool...

Sorry, but it's not a $200 yearly fee, Where are some of you guys getting your information?????? Thanks Luminous, you beat me to it.
And if you own it when you die, you can legally transfer it to one of your heirs without them having to pay the tax again when they take possesion of it. (Yes there is a form for that also, since they're regulated) Some states, they are legal, some states they're not, so check with the ATF prior to filling out the paperwork on it and save your time in finding out after you take the time to fill it out. If you move to a different state, you may or may not be able to take it with you (Hence a safety deposit box would be required in the state where your license was issued) or if you transfer it across state lines to a buddies house, you'd also have to get permission for that also. Basically, if it's legal in your state, if you can own a gun, you can own a silencer. The XD's are not the ideal platform to use a silencer because the barrel "floats" and is not affixed to the frame without incorporating a suppressor like the Advanced Armament Evolution model with a "Nielson Device" built into it. Beretta's however is a good platform, but the 92/96's aren't available in the .45 caliber you were asking about, so it may not apply to you. And yes, you'd have to have a threaded barrel to attach it to. And while I'm at it, Machine guns are also legal with a manufacture date prior to 1988, and the same rules apply, but to answer your question if a suppressor is legal for you, maybe, maybe not. Edit to add: some ammo is better suited for suppression than others. On the 9mm platform, 147 grainers tend to be on the low side of 1,000 FPS and are quiter than the more available 115/124 grain ammo. .45's are fair too in terms of "BANG", but overall, the .22 will be the quietest of the bunch along the lines of comparing them with an airgun. Or if you don't want to go with a suppressor, get .22 short rounds or subsonic that only fires the bullet from the primer powder.
