XD Sight Tool

We all know that the factory sights on the XDs are a bear to move.

So I'm sending my XD40 Tactical to ajames to have new sights installed.

I read that the tool for the Sig sights won't work with the factory XD sights because the sights are too wide for the tool. But once my new sights are installed, TruGlo Fiber Optic, would the Sig tool work on these sights?

I installed a set of TFO's on my Sig P226 and the front sight was too wide to fit into the cutout of the tool. I ended up just using the side of the block instead of putting it in the cutout and it worked like a champ. When the sight is inside the cutout, it is only contacting the sight on one side anyway, so as long as you have the sight started correctly, it works.

The Meprolight tool is prbably the mos effective, I installed the TFO sights on my XD45 using the P500 Universal tool sight(Brownells), is abit more complicated to set up but it is less expensive, before installing the sights I slightly file the dovetails on the sights and use lithium grease on the slots, it when in easy, I would not try to take the original sights off with this tool, I just used a brass punch with the slide on a vise with soft jaws.

I tried for a day or two to move the factory rear sight to the right as I was hitting to the left. I absolutely could not move that sight. Used various brass punches and different sized hammers, and various degrees of violence as well. Didn't ry the freezer though. That might have helped.

I'm going to let aJames do the job and install new sights next week. I was really wanting to know if it's easier to move the Truglo sights on an XD as compared to the factory sights.

I do plan to buy a sight tool, but there are many of them out there, OK three maybe, but didn't want to spend the money if they wouldn't work.

Wow!

I guess that's the one aJames has on his website. He sells it for $450.

He lists it as a mepsightpusher, so I guess it's the one.

Find a friend that has a discount at Brownells... I think the Meprolight Universal sales for $360 +S&H @ Brownells. I wish I had bought it, I paid half that price for the one I bought(P500 Universal), but you get what you pay for, it works but setting it for any one sight is a pain, and if it encounters alot of resistance, you may as well forget it, I ended up damaging (scraching) a set of Trijicon rear sight on a friends XD45, it was only cosmetic but I felt bad and got him some TFO's

If you don't do a bunch of them it isn't worth doing IMO. They are a pain.

I really think the SIG tool is best when it is just you on your own guns. If it is a one time thing just get Springer or Canyon Creek to do it!
