Don's Guide Rod & Spring: Why did I wait?
Took out the XD40 Tactical with newly installed DGR with 22# spring out today for first time.
I cannot strongly enough suggest that anyone with an XD40 5" get this set up. Comfort, double taps, case throw... 165 & 180 grain... everything was better, and groups were the best I've ever gotten- by a margin. If you've been thinking about it, just do it. Do it now. http://www.pistolgear.com/products.php?id=8 Got mine just a few days after ordering. Most significant mod of all, a must have. My XD is fun to shoot again. 10 of 10, two thumbs up, etc. |

Will someone please explain to me why switching from one steel rod to another is going to help the accuracy on my .40 tactical ?
The spring doean't know the difference and adding an extra ounce to a 5" gun doesn't seem to me to make any difference. So help me understand....please.

The spring I believe made an enormous difference.
Not sure about the rod other than weight. What I do know is my XD shoots better than it ever has before. Granted, my original spring was appx. 4000 rounds old, so it was probably time to change it up anyway. |

what's the difference between the 22# and 24#. I see the 22# is more popular, but why?

This is what if have read from people who shoot competion.
Going to a heavier recoil spring makes the recoil seem lighter. What it does is turn the recoil into more of a push than a snap. Lighter springs will give you a snapier recoil and faster followup shots because the forward motion of the slide closing is less so you get on target with less of a hard push downward past the target. The slide cycles faster too. Someone posted an explanation on spring wieght and advanages a while back. This has good into too. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/inde...ST&f=42&t=5005
